This is part of the problem in football these days. One owner decides to write off 180M as part of a pet project without any business justification to the project and the market is dramatically and artificially corrupted. What will Etihad's response be to this....spend 250M to defend their position and then a clubs reasonable budget of 50M is suddenly reduced to an insignificant amount. Based on our current profit level we could spend £150m over the next 3 years and still be in the black. Can't compete with the likes of Leicester though. We could spend £255m over the next 3 seasons or £290m in the next 2 seasons and still pass the FFP tests. Compared to other teams we're in a ridiculously good position and should be blowing them out of the water in the transfer market. If the club had any semblance of ambition we would be.

Nah not you man just like he gets a lot of stick on here The majority of the lads on here, including myself, have their NUFC/footballing roots in a 90s side in which pure defensive midfielders had no place. It's no surprise that the reaction to such a player is going to be lukewarm at best. Compound that with the fact we look defensively solid and solid in midfield about three times a season and you're going to get a player that most regard as being pretty ineffective. Ronaldo has this right. In theory Tiote should give us some extra defensive strength whilst neutering our attacking play and depriving us of another creative outlet. He seems to achieve the latter without managing the former.

Carroll's not a bad shout like. Concerns over his fitness and the price West Ham would demand but if we're going to go for English players then I can't think of many strikers that would be a better fit for us (within our price range).
