I don’t think he’s that much of an upgrade of what we have. He’s looked ok when I’ve seen him but I think that’s more down to Potter and Brighton’s system. From Botman to Costa to this feels shite. I hope I’m wrong about him but would rather play Schar and Fede.

It could take years to get to a level to challenge the top 4 teams. If that’s the aim of PIf it’ll happen anyway so not sure why they’d be such bellends over a loan deal for a nearly out of contract player.

I’m not sure if I preferred it when we didn’t try to sign players or prefer being very publicly shit at signing players.

Are Man U really going to keep him, pay him to sit on the bench and lose him for nothing at the end of the season? I’d understand if it was West Ham or Spurs but there’s absolutely no threat from us.

I feel like we’re approaching the stage of the window that we might have to (or should) actually pay the asking price for a centre back even if it means over paying and reducing the amount of overall players we’ll sign this window. I’m really not confident we’ll stay up unless we gain another top quality defender.

Disappointed but from the outside looking in it looks like Sevilla have tried to take the piss given our desperate situation. I’m torn between “just pay the money” perspective and not wanting to be Everton who got bumped on every player the signed for the last few seasons.

Agree with this. It’s a really really solid appointment. They’ve got some good players and can create chances but they’re an absolute mess all over this field. Hodgson will sort that out. I was hoping they’d go for a more risky choice.

Alli and Lingard has the potential to help us stay up with ease or completely nosedive. I’m all for both at this point.

Given how shit we’ve been, how infrequently we win, drinking in every positive post, Twitter thread and video from the game feels absolutely glorious today.

After seeing bits of Norwich v Watford last night I think we are still somehow worse than both of those. This performance isn’t screaming of a team likely to get out of trouble. I’m not sure what the answer is short of a full clear out.

What’s the alternative? Clark? He’s weaker in the air and made bigger errors.

Hope Willock has a good game because we’ll need something a long side Shelvey. I thought I read they had players out too. That first 11 looks pretty strong!

I don’t think he’s looked good anywhere outside of that left wing position in a front three. Him, Rondon and Perez were incredible together and all seemed to peak in that trio. I know he had spells as a 10 looking ok but ASM is better at him and plays all of the same roles. Like a few of our others players I’m surprised how shite he’s been this season mind.

Reading a few people starting to criticise the board now. It seems weird after years of non-activity and Ashley. I get it’s frustrating but we’re trying to buy players with the worst bargaining chips. We’re desperate and have some apparent wealth now. Every club is trying to take the piss and they probably should. I’m following a few others on here now and taking a backward step (translates and not refreshing Twitter/this thread all day) as the constant non-progress in transfers just feels like yet more disappointment.
