Sticking two or three on him shows how dangerous he is to be fair. If he was playing for a top side with other quality around him teams couldn't afford to do that. Thiago Motta far too underrated for me.

Ramos is probably the best recent example. He was never the best CB defensively but brought so much to the team with his leadership and drive. They regularly fell apart without him and I think he made Varane look twice the CB he actually is.

He was a better player than Gattuso IMO who was a mainstay in that Milan team.

Ribery probably deserved the ballon d'Or when Bayern won the treble. Think him and Robben are a bit underrated due to playing in the Messi and Ronaldo prime era.

France are comfortably the best squad at International level on paper. They should be the only ones with expectations of winning things not England. Can't deny we've had favourable draws under Southgate though, I guess that's where some of the frustration comes from. There's a sense that we blew it giving the relatively 'easy' run ins. At the same time people are quick to only pin the blame on Southgate for the losses and not give him credit for getting us to that point in the first place. We were tactically spot on in quite a few games where his selection was criticized prematch.
