It shows how far we’ve come when I watch that and think, as I did last night, that our players would have been more on his wavelength; done better with the balls he played; responded quicker to the pictures he sees. I know I don’t need to remind, but I am talking about doing better than teammates from an Italian national team who have just beaten France (ranked 2nd in the world) 3-1 in Paris.

Here's this season's chart predicting when we would be expected to pick up the average 69 points required for a 4th place finish. It takes into account quality of the opposition and whether we play them home or away. According to the formula used we should have had 4 points by end of August (we did) and 10 by end of September (only there points away with three games to play). It'll look better when we've played more but I've added a half season version so current trajectory is more visible.

Another ‘near’ assist for Sandro; with his venture over to the right wing. He’s getting a lot of favourable bounces (for want of a better phrase) passes not quite clean but still getting there. Hope tonight will be great for his confidence (and soooo wish we could have got Olise. What a superb footballer).

Wish they would use him a bit more in the build-up play. He’s been in acres at times and ignored.

Well even if you appoint in good faith, doesn’t mean you continue to like what you see. Especially if what you see starts to look like snide, snivelling, rivalries upsetting the sense of togetherness.

Can’t help thinking that in an ideal world nobody should give a fuck about his preferences or thoughts on playing style. Whether it aligns or doesn’t with Howe’s, he should be there to ensure that we can sustainably feed the beast with the right kind of players when we need them. Suspect that beneath the managerees patter this unfortunately isn’t how his role is seen. ‘Director’ roles likes to direct. The coach who works for me kind of vibe. Talentless tag alongs.

Didn’t recall that. On checking think it was possibly just that season’s Northern Rock top. Images of him playing in four other designs with cuffs intact.
