Wasn’t sure where to put this, but given stuff re ‘Eddie’s slow starting magpies’. Here’s when we have picked points this season this season compared to last four.
-
Comparison of when we have picked-up points (first half of season) over last 5 seasons. So this year we have the same amount after five games as we did in 2022-23 (finished 4th on 71 pts) and 2023-24 (finished 7th on 60pts). No need to fret just yet.

Great technique and effectiveness with efficient effort?
-
Couple of examples yesterday of beautiful interplay passing involving Tonali going forward. Such an intelligent footballer.
-
Give it time. Once (if and when) we have a full squad to pick from and players are properly bedded in we will be fierce going forward. Re the playmaker issue, I would love to see Gordon, Wissa and Elanga with Woltemade behind, backed up with Tonali and Bruno. That six could produce beautiful fluid attacking football.

Burn and Tonali are line Duracell bunny Tonka toy hybrids (80s advert metaphor alert!). Incredibly impressive watching them charge around yesterday. The number of times I thought wtf is Burn doing there! Such belief and drive to win. Talk about running through walls for a team/manager. Hats off man. -

No single player is. He is a double figures winger when we have a competent forward line. And at best he scares the shit out of defences with his relentless chasing and pace. -

Not sure what that means, but he scored 11 goals from midfield in a pretty shit side and won something like 9 titles/cups in his career. Including the big two with you know who. -

Wijnaldum was massively under appreciated. Absolutely top class Tonali type midfielder. -
Looked a bit rusty today. A fair bit of stuff just not coming off for him. Good he got the minutes.

Was just thinking the same. Perhaps with a bit more confidence/security re his position he will grow into it. Needs to watch Rice. He’s great at a half turn to get out of trouble and moving forward with the ball. I think Miley could be a similar style player. -

Your favourite player will probably replace soon Rod, so all is well with the world. -

Two losses and one win in seven. I can think of truly shite records. -
“Newcastle wants Endrick Newcastle has been one of the first to ask about their availability. The English club is looking for a young, dynamic and hungry offensive reinforcement for triumphs, qualities that fit right with Endrick's profile. In the Premier League, the Brazilian striker would have the opportunity to measure himself with demanding defences and adapt to a dizzying pace of play. Endrick could become a valuable resource in the rotation of a Newcastle that competes both in the domestic championship and in European tournaments.” We could probably afford to add another. Probably have to if there is any doubt about Wissa’s return. Born 2006 (‘kin hell). 14 caps for Brazil at aged 19 is not a bad sign.

Since Eddie took over the helm, we’ve the following record. Home: 1-1, 1-0 (LC), 2-2, 1-4. Away: 1-1, 0-2, 1-1. So four draws, two losses and one win (in the cup). Not great, but not awful. Oddly, we won three and drew two of the five games pre-Howe; including a 4-1 away victory. Though that downturn was obviously more about their improvement than anything to do with us being worse or Eddie Howe being jinxed/found out against them. Personally, I think we’re due a win. Another 4-1 pay back would do very nicely though think we might must nick it 1-0. Hoping our players relish, and exploit, the difference time on the ball wise and ease of getting hold of the thing in the first place in comparison to their last opponents. -
Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)
Coffee_Johnny replied to Miggys First Goal's topic in Football
There is some comfort, not much admittedly, from knowing that we had identified and tried to sign both Ekitike and Szoboszlai before being trumped by bigger money (in their pocket) and better chance of winning things/more prestige which comes with an established tier 1 club. There’s more comfort from knowing that we got Tonali and Woltemade in their place. With both of them (for very different reasons) we had to wait, and will probably have to wait, a season to see the best of them. If you add doubling our money on Voldemart ( 🇸🇪) then along with other signings it shows there is not much wrong with our scouting network. We’re fishing in the right ponds, but missing out on big fish when others have better bait isn’t going to change any time soon. -
That has to be a first! Poor fucker hasn’t even kicked a ball in anger yet.

Hauled off after half a game 😉

Beginning to think you could have an argument in an empty room. Well, one with red and white wallpaper 😉

Hilariously deluded (standard…). I really tried to get a ticket—through multiple avenues—and eventually gave when there were literally three tickets left at over £1000 (legitimate ones through club). Wonder how many times they have sold tickets at that price?
