He was a combative cunt with the fanbase wasn’t he, and a firm advocate of ‘Mike’? -

I’m confused about why so few people hate Carver. -
Lost 90 something when I got rid of my season ticket. Got the ticket back but not the points.
-
I think points were still used just it was never really broadcast. I forlornly applied for Sunderland every year, for example, and never got one.

I am somewhat relieved to go in that thread, expecting uncomfortable questions that could easily give me pause for thought, and instead see comments like (genuinely) ‘a fucking hate the Middle East me.’ What? All of it? Everybody that lives there? You ever been, marra? For a lot of them it seems like quite a handy outlet for the type of racism that means their players dare not take the knee at Wembley for fear of upsetting them.

This is where all the usual caveats about the cash we might or might not have do not apply. If nothing else, we do not have to sell existing talent if we do not want to, from a financial standpoint at least.

Tell us more.

I would suggest anybody advocating a move out of town- even as a last resort- takes in a game at Brighton. The match day experience there is completely shit. After the game in August, you had two options: A huge queue for the train, or a huge queue inside the ground for the bar. I was even prepared to pay stupid prices for a taxi but that was seemingly impossible too. Fuck replacing SJP for that.

Have a feeling that we still have a few more years of playing brilliantly in these sort of games but being unlucky/robbed and losing to sickeners like at Anfield. Just a vibe. Seem to remember City had a few years of that before they established their total dominance against inferior but historically ‘bigger’ clubs. Might be completely wrong.

How many season ticket holders do we actually have? Mid thirties?
-
He’s already way better than Ben Arfa.
-
We scored from a cross today.

Must be our shortest odds ever going there in the Premier League? Even when we were good they were always horrible to play against there. I maintain that the awful post-Xmas game on that rock hard pitch in 96 is the overlooked turning point of the title race. For the first time you could see our players thinking ‘shit’.

Had him to outscore Brentford today.
-
It doesn’t, but if you register on the official site you can hear the game that way. Radio Newcastle’s coverage.

Would love an appropriate page number and link for this particular thread if anybody feels such way inclined

Haha, we got taken over, no shag. The end.

The day of that Wolves game I, somewhat inexplicably, was in a jazz bar in Moscow with a pretty girl I had met the week before. In hindsight, it should have occurred to me that when she readily agreed to come to a bar that showed the Premier League that she was interested, but I was stressed because my bank card was acting up and so I had to politely ask her to pay for each drink, promising to pay her back next time. I don’t know if it was a language thing, but each time this news was met with a sort of breezy compliance, as though it were the first time she was finding it out, but it was fine because my harried foppishness on the subject reminded her of Hugh Grant films from the nineties. Looking back, it seems odd that I was still interested in watching our game. Maybe we all now feel like we were a bit more removed than we truthfully were, or perhaps it is just more of what I have always thought of as football’s primary service: To give shape to one’s weekend, which is especially crucial when you’re in a different county. Either way, I didn’t actually watch it. There was a power cut in the pub, so we went next door to a rock bar. Rock bars in Moscow in 2021 were basically rock bars in Newcastle in 2004, and we listened to a lot of listless mid-noughties indie. Later I was verbally pushed around by a group of burly Russian men demanding a go at my vape in front of her. The next day- and I never did see her again- she texted that we should have went to my place to watch the football. And the thing is, if it had been post-takeover, I would absolutely have suggested that. I would have suggested it even if I had been sure she would say no, and in my assertiveness would have no doubt established myself as an even greater sexual prospect in her eyes. That I did not do that is all Steve Bruce’s fault. Thanks Steve. Then the Wednesday and the Thursday and where were you. Like others, I experienced that ‘Was it a dream’ feeling waking up on the Friday morning, after about an hour and forty five minutes of sleep. I remember somebody on here making the point that in reality it is probably the best news a football fan can experience- it was the promise of an immense journey, I am not sure it will be beaten by a trophy, to be honest, because that will already be in the past the morning after. This was all future, and still is really. Still wish I’d shagged her, like.

Yeah, but to be fair, it’s not as it’s presented there. They weren’t singing it as a snub to Owen.
-
Most people thought he looked about thirty.
-
Didn’t Lee go from a ten goal a season player to one who, despite still being class, barely scored at all? I remember his goal against Man Utd in the 4-3 breaking some long duck, which then continued. Nothing about him V Bruno, just wondered if anybody had any thoughts on why that was?
-
How was the away end in general? Good noise? I was stuck watching it on mute
-
It’s nice that they have that empty, expensive stand looming out from the camera angle and over the pitch, like a handy metaphor of football’s wastefulness and short sighted arrogance.
-
Yeah, during that interminable var check I was thinking that maybe they were looking at that given how obviously onside the first touch was, but both were miles on.
