Anyone hear Mark Lawrenson on the radio just then? Aside from the totally expected sympathy for McClaren (why can't they ever just say a manager is doing a bad job btw?), apparently our big problem at Newcastle is that when a new manager comes in and doesn't instantly do well, we sack them. And that we need a 6/12/18 month plan and to let a manager develop into the job.

It's very nearly eight years since we last sacked an underperforming manager.

He gets paid for this. f***ing baffling.

Lawro is a braindead twat but why not be sympathetic to McLaren? The poor guy comes in to what he thinks is going to be a straightforward job (objective: do less shit than Carver. That's a piece of piss on paper) only to find things rotten to the core. I've been in a similar position and it's an awful situation to be in.

You hear that all the time at the moment  - that we need stability and to stop sacking managers.  Soon forgotten that Pardew was the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League before he left us and that it was his decision to leave.

The media has been having a lot of fun mocking McClaren for the excessive use of the word confidence in his press conference.

He keeps going on about how the players don't have confidence because they have lost so many games this year yet he never mentions that he himself is in the same cycle having lost more or less the same number of games when you include Derby.  He is very quick to focus everything on the players but he probably needs to look at himself.

Pardew's reign of terror never happened then.

It's pointless looking at what Klopp has done, he's one of the best managers on the planet. We are not going to get someone anywhere near his quality in our current state. You put a good manager in a s*** situation, he will still do s***. Countless examples.

Best thing we can do is get relegated, get shot of Ashley, appoint a Klopp disciple and go on from there.

Nah, this is never the best thing. Regardless of the situation, that's still the last thing we want.

Not according to the poll on here, 54 % wants to be relegated

We've been relegated recently, bounced back with ease and now ended up in exactly the same position except with foreigners who seemingly now don't care rather than overpaid british players who couldn't really be arsed. Yes, Ashley is the biggest problem of all and his on going managerial appointments are f***ing tragic but how many relegations should we suffer?

If we go down, we might not runaway with the championship again and if we do go down, and Ashley stays, do we then want another relegation to league 1 to see if that makes him sell the club? I personally just don't think wishing the worst on us is the way forward in sheer hope Ashley eventually caves in.

We would need to be down to League 1 at least, if not lower.

Basically just giving up on NUFC and waiting is the way to go. Or failing that, try to ignore the bigger picture and just watch the match.

I've given up, racked in my ST after 20 years. I would take conference right now if it meant getting rid of the slug. I watch the games on TV/internet and go a couple of times a season now - always last day. I guess I am one of those who is 'waiting'.

Not really fussed if we get arse-raped on Sunday. The slug has destroyed the club and it won't recover until he's away.

I think there's a major problem now with Coloccini and we have to replace him. At the moment, McClaren lacks an alternative, but Colo has never struck me as a natural leader or communicator. He gets discouraged, he can't assert himself in certain situations and at one stage he seemed desperate to leave. How a player in that position can inspire his team-mates I don't know.

It sounded like he and McClaren fell out after the Leicester game, so there's now a complete power vacuum on the pitch. If we do nothing else in January, bring in a tough, experienced centre back.

It's a bad state of affairs though when it's clear he can't lead the team and McClaren knows this, falls out with him over his lack of effort/leadership and yet he still wears the armband.

Didn't we nearly get relegated a couple of times under Pardew and Ashley stuck by him. Just can't see him getting sacked. I can see him walking though  the first signs of the fans turning against him.

2 games to save his job getting mentioned a lot. He's fucked if it's correct.

Against Liverpool and Spurs, 2 most in-form teams in the country.

He was higher up at the time mind.

Yeah but he had us on ridiculous losing streaks plenty enough times to make you think they might have considered binning him at some point. But they didn't.

I've just listened to his interview on total sport this morning. The man talks utter fucking rubbish, nonsensical, meaningless sound bites. Desperate stuff.

He really is awful to listen to, waffles vague shit and comes across as someone who has totally lost touch. His team reflects him on the pitch in all honesty. No direction, passion or fight.

Pardew was Ashley's mate. I don't think there's the same loyalty with McClaren.

Looking at McClaren's record, he's never managed to turn things around once they've gone pear shaped. Forest and Wolfsburg come to mind.

Lose these next 2 and I think he'll be persuaded to go on a mutual consent jobbie. Changing the manager and hoping the players respond is a much cheaper alternative than throwing another £30m+ at the squad in January.

Will need much more than that imo.

I agree totally. Don't think it'll happen though.
