biggs
Thats them well and truly fucked then. 10/07/2008 23:00 Luton Town Furious With 30-Point Deduction Luton Town director Stephen Browne has hit out at the Football League after the club were handed a further 20 point penalty. * »Comments (1) * Print This Story * Send To A Friend * Contact Us The Hatters had already been penalised for illegal payments to third parties during several player transfers, an issue former manager Mike Newell had brought to the public’s attention in 2006. Having fallen into administration towards the end of last season, the club were also set to be handed a ten point deduction when the season begins in August. However, Town’s new owners, LTFC2020, have failed to agree a Company Voluntary Arrangement, which is a security procedure to offer parties a level of protection against the creditors to whom they owe money. As such, the Football League have decided to apply a heavier punishment to the club, meaning the side will begin their League One season on minus-30, increasing the likelihood that they will suffer relegation for a second successive season. "It's quite clear that we have made a mistake. We placed our faith in the footballing authorities. We have tried to do everything openly and honestly,” Browne’s official statement read on the club’s website. "Obviously the very clear message from both the FA and Football League is that doing such a thing is a total waste of time. "Once again, the club suffers from the mismanagement of the past. Once again the faithful supporters are left high and dry. Once again a policy of honesty is not at all recognised by the football authorities who claim they want to clean up the game.” Though the club were also forced to sign away their rights to an appeal, Browne insists the club will do what they can to fight the additional punishment. Crime And Pun ishment "The Football League have decided to dictate what should be paid for the football club as it now appears that they are the only people who can set a purchase price for a football club,” he added. "It's a gun to our heads because we also have to forego our right of appeal or else we will not be allowed to stay in professional league football. "We have already discussed this internally and we have decided unanimously that we will continue the fight by sticking to our principles of openness and honesty. The Luton case echoes that of Leeds United’s, with the Yorkshire-club handed a 15 point punishment having also failed to agree a CVA with their creditors. In that case, The Whites’ chairman Ken Bates took his appeal to an independent arbitration but the club’s claims were refuted, leaving the side on minus-15 when the season began. midds
Why not just relegate them and give another club a crack at a higher division? It's leaving it a bit late too.

Guest FlapjackJoe
Harsh on Luton, but hopefully this will send a message to other clubs to sort out their finances before it reaches the same proportions...
Guest gggg
Harsh on Luton, but hopefully this will send a message to other clubs to sort out their finances before it reaches the same proportions... The only message this sends out to directors is you can cause as much damage as you like and the club will take the punishment.
Syrette
They can still appeal the 10 point penalty as far I'm aware.

stalker
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bournemouth/7500495.stm Bournemouth might end up with a 25 point deduction. They might as well just give any team who doesn't have a chance of promotion the season off.
Chris_R
Too harsh IMO. 15-20 points would have been enough. 30 is just silly. They're going to need league-winning form just to stay up.

The College Dropout
Why not just relegate them? This just ensures they have a crap season then get relegated.
Colos Short and Curlies
Why not just relegate them? This just ensures they have a crap season then get relegated. Relegating them does not benefit the teams who have 'kept to the rules' so to speak. a 30 point deduction theoretically removes one relegation spot. Promoting another team punishes Luton but benefits no other. Or something to that effect. Gonna put a fiver on them staying up anyway, worth a punt
biggs
Feel sorry for the fans as they have no chance now except in a couple of games in the cups realistically , will probably hit season ticket sales etc with fans being slapped like that because of crooked owners. Harsh on Luton, but hopefully this will send a message to other clubs to sort out their finances before it reaches the same proportions... The only message this sends out to directors is you can cause as much damage as you like and the club will take the punishment. Yes these people can walk away when the damage is done and leave the clubs in the shit .
