The Ashley interview in the official club magazine is perhaps the only definitive source for direct quotes about his plan(s) for Newcastle.

The thing is, many of his recent and current actions just don't fit in with his own plan. In fact, as it stands right now, the plan is in shreds and the club is like the Titanic bearing down on an iceberg. Ashley is the captain of the ship but isn't on deck so history will be bound to repeat itself.

Conspiracy theories appeal in greater or lesser measure dependant on there plausibility.

Sun Tzu's Art of War states that before you can destroy your enemy you must first become his friend. Or maybe not Sun Tzu, but an eastern business philosophy nevertheless.

Pretty sure Ashely denied being a Tottenham supporter, but it's been stated many times in the past and still is with Dave Whelan being the most recent to mention it, that many believe it to be a fact. Paul Kemsley is certainly counted among a close circle of friends, not that that in itself is proof of anything.

As wild as the theory is, and the possibility of losing millions kind of throws it out before it even gets off the ground, Ashley certainly seems to have done a grand job of ripping the heart out of the club. And Keegan and the fans of Newcastle played their parts perfectly as though the scripts had been pre-written and learnt by rote.

If one's real agenda had been to destroy a hated rival it really couldn't have gone better as things stand right now. :(

Except Tottenham don't hate Newcastle, and we'd probably be in as much a mess if we hadn't have been bought by Ashley.

Keith Harris To Newcastle’s Rescue

September 21st, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 4 Comments

Newcastle’s billionaire owner, Mike Ashley, will turn to former Football League chairman Keith Harris to sell the St James’ Park club for £480M

Keith Harris - to Newcastle’s rescue?

We had reported earlier in the week that Mike may turn to Keith to help sell the Tyneside club, since Keith has been involved in some big deals lately in selling football clubs.

Only last summer, Harris was in charge of former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s acquisition of Manchester City.

Harris is said to be returning from a trip to North America and will begin to look for a buyer for the North East club next week. Newcastle, who are a proud club, are now in serious turmoil and trouble, after Kevin Keegan’s resignation over two weeks ago.  Keegan is now said to be on holiday in Spain.

The good news for Newcastle fans is that sources close to Ashley say a number of potential buyers have already been in touch with the club, but only preliminary talks have taken place.

The bad news is that Ashley and his people are saying it could take months to sell the club, which will not come as good news at all to Newcastle fans, because by then, the team could be rooted to the bottom of the league, with little chance of survival.

Ashley has to at least get a new manager in quickly, while he looks to sell the club. That has to be done, to save the sinking ship, which is Newcastle United right now.

Make no mistake, this is a very serious and sad position for a proud club to sink to.

Again IF this is remotely true, this man lost 300m on a BET, but refuses to negotiate in the region of 100-150m (depending what you read) for the sale of the club.

Yeah right Ashley, the best intrests of the Toon at heart. Bollocks.

He is in meltdown, and (at the same time) he is full of HATE towards us for what he feels we did to him.

He will get his revenge on us, he knows exactly how to do that.

Dear me what a load of crap, you'd think we have no injury problems at all.

It isn't as if Ashley has just walked into a bookies and said "I bet £300 million that HBOS won't fold"  This is part of the the spread betting he's being doing for ages, playing the markets by betting on share prices.  This basically just means he's lost value in his ongoing bet recently on HBOS, similar to how people will have lost value in shares.  Its also recoverable depending on what the shares do in the future.  Which has already happened in fact, he was down over £400 million originally, now he's down just under £295 million with the rescue from Lloyds, for every penny the shares go back up he'll gain back £800,000 and the money doesn't actually have to be paid until the bet has ended, so at this point he's lost absolutely nothing, though of course its not looking good.  Its like betting on a game of Football that a team will win a game and that team being 2 down at half time.

No doubt its not going well for him at the moment financially though, which doesn't bode well for him accepting a lower offer for the club.  Realistically nobodies going to offer over £250 million IMO.

I have to admit though its fucking annoying that this bloke seems to be addicted to incredibly risky insanely high roll betting (half a billion betting on shares ffs) yet he wouldn't take a single risk on his Football club..  Why couldn't he just see Newcastle United as one big wager?  If he's out for excitement there's no more exciting bet really, put that half a billion in and bet you can make Newcastle the best in the world, get ready for the most exciting roller coaster ride of your life

"Elsewhere, Ashley may try to revive the interest of a Nigerian consortium whose offer of around £300 million — again, revealed by us — was rejected early last month."
