Yup. My point wasn’t to attack Newcastle, it was to refute the original point.

Yup. It’s a fascinating and I guess not unsurprising list. I guarantee I would not have guessed all of the names. I think I missed at least one.

Edit: to be clear, that was knowing the clubs. I’d have struggled just trying to name the 15 managers. Would have had Bobby Robson in, for one.

Funnily enough, Eddie Howe is another manager who just comes in under 5 years.

Yup, just Poch for us. I forgot about Jim Smith (in my head he’s Oxford/QPR) and didn’t realize how long Houllier was there.

Ah, sorry, didn’t read it properly initially. Still a lot, lot closer than I would have expected.

Aye they counting Houllier's time in the job share with Roy Evans too though? What a weird set up that was looking back, 2 managers with different styles running the same team. Very odd

He had two leap years in his reign, not just the one too. So kinda just 2 days shy.

They didn't want to sack Evans so made the joint roll up As soon as Houllier was established Evans conveniently resigned.

It’s actually more pathetic that De Zerbi has made those comments backtracking than actually owning the comments and just saying he values winning more than keeping women safe

Spoiler

🧵 1) The headline

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League (2024/25)

This is framed as a huge underperformance relative to their financial power

👉 Sets up the central theme: rich club, poor results

💵 2) Revenue (still elite)

Tottenham remain one of the highest-earning clubs in England

Revenue is driven by:

Big stadium income (one of the best in Europe)

Strong commercial deals

Solid broadcasting money

👉 Even with poor performance, income stays very high

🏟️ 3) Stadium advantage

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a major asset

Generates huge matchday + event revenue (NFL, concerts, etc.)

👉 Financially, Spurs outperform many rivals here

📉 4) Profitability

Spurs’ profits are mixed or under pressure

High revenue is offset by:

Rising costs

Investment in squad and infrastructure

👉 Not struggling—but not massively profitable either

💸 5) Wage bill

Wages are high but not at the very top tier

Lower than clubs like:

Manchester City

Manchester United

👉 This can limit competitiveness despite strong revenue

🔄 6) Transfers & spending

Continued significant transfer investment

Focus on squad rebuilds and long-term planning

👉 Spending is there—but results haven’t followed

⚖️ 7) Cost control model

Spurs are relatively financially disciplined compared to rivals

Less reckless spending than some “big six” clubs

👉 A deliberate strategy—but possibly a sporting trade-off

📊 8) Debt & finances

Stadium-related debt still exists

But it’s considered manageable and structured

👉 Not a crisis—more a long-term investment

9) The key contradiction

Spurs combine:

Top-tier revenue

Controlled spending

Modern infrastructure

BUT

Deliver near-relegation-level performance

👉 This gap is the core point of the thread

🧠 10) Overall conclusion

Tottenham are:

Financially strong and stable

But underperforming massively on the pitch

👉 The implied question:
Is their cautious financial model holding them back competitively?

Currently can’t be arsed to read it all, so posting in here, so someone else (who’ll probably have a fair better grasp of finances than me anyway) will do so and report back.

Cartel club doing cartel club things. Meanwhile we have to do accounting gymnastics despite not signing a first team ready player for a fee since Summer 2023.

Woltemade, Wissa, Elanga, Ramsey and Thiaw were all signed for the first team.

Exact reason why we need a new stadium and to get our commercial revenue up as much as possible.

Lets become untouchable before they make it impossible for any new club to become untouchable.

yup I was thinking that, surely some mistake.

Not during the accounting period in question - everything post 1 July 2025 won’t be included (summer signings, Isak sale, Champions League).

The Bald Eagle is NUFC, surely :)

I can still remember being confused by his resignation - and the conversation my dad and uncle had after it was announced (it was in the middle of a load of politics on the NUFC board)
