I actually thought he was a left back, obviously got that wrong but the journal seem to think so too...

Reminds me of Leighton Baines, but that might be just because he looks a bit rat-like.

A source close to 24-year-old Taylor told the Chronicle: “He’d love to make the move to Newcastle. He sees it as a big move in his career.

“Ryan has been in talks over a new contract, but they haven’t really progressed.

“He’s grown restless and sees this as the right time to move on.”

Could the source be Steven Taylor?

tbh cannot believe the part i have highlighted and if thats true why the fuck would we do that :idiot2:

Taylor can operate as full-back on both sides of the field and has been playing on the left wing for Wigan in recent weeks.

He has scored four of his six Premier League goals against Newcastle and has proved to be a serial menace to the black-and-whites.

Ryan Taylor

Wigan’s Geordie boss Steve Bruce will not want to lose Taylor but knows that the Merseyside-born player is out of contract at the end of the season and can walk away for free in June. But Wigan have until Monday night to make up their minds whether to cash in now after a £1.5m move by the Mags.

[glow=red,2,300]The offer – believed to be payable in two instalments – hasn’t tempted Wigan so far, but Taylor is believed to be keen on the switch to St James’s Park.[/glow]

And with Charles N’Zogbia vowing never to play again for the club, a deal could be thrashed out that sees the sulky star heading to the North-West to join former team-mates Titus Bramble and Antoine Sibierski at Wigan.

Taylor’s run of goals against Newcastle started in 2007 when he scored from a free-kick in a 1-0 win against Glenn Roeder’s side.

He repeated the trick again on Boxing Day 2008 against Sam Allardyce’s side at the JJB Stadium. And, after scoring a stunning 20-yard effort at Gallowgate in the 2-2 draw this season, he followed it up with another curling set-piece past Shay Given, 12 months to the day after the goal that sunk Big Sam to help Bruce’s side to a 2-1 win.

Yet he has bad memories of Tyneside too after breaking his leg in two places at Kingston Park in 2006 while playing against Newcastle reserves and spending time in hospital in Newcastle.

He joined Wigan from Tranmere in 2005 for £1.25m.

He's capable of putting a cross in, play both RB and on the wing...and can put in better set peices. This would be excellent business, I always thought if our reserves/youngsters weren't good enough, we should be beefing our squad up with players like Taylor who can do the business when called up on and add depth.

But everytime that was thought about, someone on the board would say "No better than what we have." Which I recall was used about a million times with some of the players wed love to get rid.

From the brief bits I've read on the Wigan forums (they're all cheap and nasty, funny that), they don't rate him on the flanks at all. He's a decent right-back and that is all, according to them.

The independent say Wigan value him at £4 million. :o

They valued Heskey at £10m, how much did they sell him for again?

was heskey out of contract in the summer ?

yes

so £10mill for heskey was a bit of bravado to try and up the price, never realistic.

Why is that strange? ???  Just about any transfer fee these days is paid in installments.

For that small amount though ,if it was 6 million etc fair enough.

So if we take that as being true thats it for any other quality coming in with a more hefty price tag on that principle.
