But although Keith Harris, the man in charge of finding a buyer for United, is in America talking to an interested party, no major development on the takeover front is now expected until the middle of the coming week.

It's all a load of bollocks isn't it. Every single media outlet is just guessing so when/if it happens they can claim to be right. We won't know in advance of it actually happening IMO; it'll either come completely out of the blue or not happen at all.

The problem is that it's annoying as fuck.

I have some optimism that a sale might go through but that's just based on things like Shearer and Shepherd keeping their silence nothing to do with any of the clueless speculation in the press. Neither have ruled out a return to the club so they must believe there is some chance of progress. If Shearer thought he was just being dicked about he'd probably have lamped Llambiarse by now.

They're like cp40 in that "When will we get some good news thread" posting "Tomorrow" for each passing day

To be honest I'd sooner believe cp40 than the papers.

If is Philip Anschutz he has the money to do it right -Philip Frederick Anschutz (born 28 December 1939 in Russell, Kansas) is an American businessman. With an estimated current[update] net worth of around $7.8 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 31st richest person in the USA.

Alternatively, stop reading the abortion that is NUFCBlog.

that's some good advice right there

Better off being advised to stop reading anything regarding the sale of NUFC. Absolutely pointless because no one knows anything.

I have also speculated that Anschutz is the American interest... however, It would not be him personally taking over. He is not like Glazer, Hicks or Gillett - Anschutz is more hands off. It would be AEG managing Newcastle with a Chairman running things in the UK working for the UK AEG office. Anschutz owns over half a dozen sports teams and he is rarely seen watching the games or getting directly involved... that is just not his way. And when he dies AEG will live on without him. We could do a lot worse.

Aye if he remembers us in his will

I guess having a hands on ownerr who go's to the games did not do much for us this time did it, but I would still rather have an owner with some passion for the club.

I honestly think having an owner who doesn't have any real passion for the club other than business interest might be a good thing.  Newcastle has enough passion from the fans, the owner should be thinking with a business head and not let it get clouded by "passion"

All i want is an owner who follows us fanatically, is a multi multi billionaire who has budgeted 2 billion for us, loves alan shearer, is personal friends with the likes of Ronaldo, Messi and Eto, wants to live in the north east and loves nothing more than communicating with the fans

Is that really too much to ask for!

The closest you can come to that is Shepard, just change billionaire for millionaire, and love the club to hate the club but puts the love message across instead, and can get in touch with the big name players if his life depended on it.

I surpose if all of us gamble a little bit of money that we have on the stock market or the casino's, then one of us somewhere will become a billionaire.

Well if AEG were interested, it will probably be on hold due to the Michael Jackson refunds that may cost a bomb.

Another dodgy yank fuking us up. First Maddoff now Jackson. Are we really that cursed

So who are the front runners for this then? Which bids are looking better than others.

The signed secrecy agreements stops anyone from knowing anything I think

Ashley needs to settle

10:16am Monday 29th June 2009

MIKE Ashley will have to underwrite Kevin Keegan’s ongoing compensation battle with Newcastle United if he is to sell the club within the next fortnight.

With four consortia currently undergoing a process of due diligence, Ashley continues to edge closer to a sale of the Magpies. Keith Harris, the investment broker charged with overseeing the takeover process, spent the weekend in the United States meeting representatives of the American group that has always been regarded as one of the leading bidders.

Ashley had hoped that a deal would have been agreed before Newcastle’s players return for the start of pre-season training on Wednesday, but the issue of Keegan’s unsettled compensation claim has emerged as a major stumbling block.

Keegan is claiming that his departure from St James’ Park last September was a case of constructive dismissal, citing boardroom interference as evidence of a concerted attempt to force him out of the club. The former manager’s claims are contested by Newcastle United.

If a court was to rule in Keegan’s favour, Newcastle could be forced to pay up to £8m, as he was only eight months into a three-year contract worth around £3m-a-year when he left the Magpies.

Understandably, the club’s prospective new owners are concerned at being saddled with a seven-figure bill, and it is thought they have demanded Ashley assumes personal responsibility for the dispute.

That would mean that if Keegan was to be awarded compensation in the future, it would be Ashley rather than Newcastle United who was responsible for paying it.

Interesting development if true.
