If we want to start dominating games more like the top national sides do, we need a player like Carrick whose natural game is to drop off and pick up the ball. Lampard and Gerrard were woeful in the middle. Cleverly was promising with his forays into the box. Should have scored. Danny Welbeck by far had the most impact, and I quite liked Bertrand's cameo. The feedback was so overwhelmingly positive that the pundits went back to work the following day, and they even rebroadcasted some of the games with fake non-live commentary, lest there was any trace left of that blissful moment. Best we get him more game time as opposed to a stop-gap who probably wont ever be able to recreate his club form on the national stage. BBC had the option during World Cup 2006 and it was great. Unfortunately, there wasn't the same option on ITV and you still had to listen to David Pleat. He's filling in at the moment. What I don't understand is Hodgson's reluctance to start Welbeck. He's a very good player who looks completely confident at that level.
