Nice to have one of our own doing co-comms tonight. Makes a huge difference to what we usually end up with.

He’s awful at it though.

Can’t stand the bloke. Awful pundit with generally awful opinions. And not a very pleasant chap in real life, sadly.

Great player obviously, but my opinion of him has dropped massively since his playing days.

I've met him a few times since he retired and has always been sound to be honest.

Every time I’ve met him he’s been notably arrogant or dismissive… he completely brushed aside one of my colleagues last year who just wanted to say hello. Find his commentary and opinions a bit “old miserable bloke” for my liking, as well. His over the top criticism of Woltemade… the way he was pulling up Gordon over his (very genuine) illness this week.

I think Shearer, contrary to a lot of other pundits that comment on their own team, seems to try and make a conscious effort to offer a modicum of balance when he's talking about us. But he's also clearly a passionate fan and levies criticism where he thinks it's due, partly to offer some balance, and partly tinged with fan frustration that we're all feeling this year.

Woltemade is an interesting choice of player to call any criticism over-the-top criticism, too, because whilst I'm personally in favour of keeping and working on him over the coming preseason, he has been utterly ineffective for a good while now, so I'm not sure any rational, constructive critical opinion should be deemed over-the-top. Just because I want us to work on him, doesn't mean I don't understand the basis of an opinion of those that would rather get rid.

I personally find any overly negative fan opinion of Shearer quite strange, as he's at worst boring, and certainly not a polarising or rage-bait personality. Bland I can understand, but I like him, he's entertaining in his pod, and I much prefer his commentary and punditry approach to the cringey "banter" bollocks that you see most of the time.

I really like him on co-comms, he always comes across well to me, has the occasional hit with a bit of dry humour and isn't anywhere near as annoying as a lot of the others can be. As someone else mentioned as well he's always good on podcasts, The Rest is Football is really good and he's a big part of that. He can be a bit negative at times, but I like that, he was obviously driven and a very high achiever so it's understandable that he might not like it when he doesn't see the same level of drive or decision making that he had. It's literally his job to comment on things happening so he has to have a bit of an opinion.

I've no time at all for that podcast, and I also don't think co-comms should have obvious allegiances to one of the playing sides... However, there is something wonderfully nostalgic about Jon Champion and Alan Shearer doing comms for a Newcastle Champions League game.

I know everyone loves the Everton one because it's a proper "fuck off" shot, but the Spurs and Villa ones are incredible like. Can't think of any other goals remotely similar to them.

Chelsea goal my favourite - the way he pins probably the best CB at the time was unreal!

He’d have 400 PL goals if he signed for Man Utd - half his career with us was in mid table teams!

Agreed. To do it against Desailly was something.

Love that ManU free kick, which often gets forgotten since we lost. Had a great view from the away end. Tottenham in the semi has a special place for being a combo of both class and triggering ecstatic scenes as it confirmed our place in the cup final.

Apologies for the bump my son and daughter have profound disabilities especially my son who turns 8 in May.

We first used the Alan shearer centre about 5 years ago having never realising what he had done with his testimonial money. The place is fantastic, wonderful staff and facilities free to use but over stretched resource wise and always short funding.

My son loves the hydrotherapy pool as these are rare and those places that do have them want £60+ for 45mins which is out if reach for us.

Anyway Alan has started a fundraiser for another pool which could be vital to those who struggle to get a slot currently ( we only get a slot twice a year at best).

For those who work with any companies who may wish to help or those generous of you to have a spare few quid I will leave the links below.

No pressure even if you share this out on your socials to raise awareness that would be of great help.
