Tooj
Moving the away fans to the North Upper will actually make it easier for the police for fans coming by coach as we are building a new coach park next to the Aquatic Centre which is directly opposite the entrance to the North Stand. However it will certainly make it interesting for those coming by Metro and the protection Newcastle fans have been afforded by Northumbria Police for the last 2 seasons will now be over. Whichever Metro station either the SOL or St Peters will now involve walking past the Sunderland ends of the ground whereas for the last 2 seasons that hasn't been the case. Also expect to pay a lot more for your tickets, the North Stand upper is a unique area of the ground and not comparable with any other part of the ground which means Short can effectively charge what he wants and their is nothing anyone can do about it. Genuine question - what's so unique about it?

Dr Venkman
was on holiday recently, initially had a little giggle at the bloke in his mackem top and full tracksuit at the airport (fwiw he wore the exact same clothes on the flight home)...then this happened... me and my lass went on a day long cruise around zakynthos on this big pirate ship looking thing. so we're sitting at the front of the ship minding our own business when 3 mackem blokes turn up, all in their 50's. incidentally i knew they were mackems because one of them had not only 3 tattoos on his legs of various simpsons characters wearing mackem tops but safc on his forearm and ftm on his other forearm (he later went on to take his top off and reveal 2 massive mackem badges on his chest and an additional ftm on his chest above them ) anyway, they position themselves right at the front of the ship on the open deck and start generally pissing about, giggling, offering other passengers sweets in 'hilarious' fashion etc and basically looking like 3 lads on a school trip. they weren't doing any harm mind. so we set sail and it's a little bit rough but lovely weather, so the lads all have their tops off and are sun-bathing and they crack open the beers. after literally one beer, and a beer the size of a coke can at that, one of them is lying face down on deck throwing up into a carrier bag, only it's not all going into the carrier bag and it's spilling onto the deck around him. there was a few waves, but this was a 150 ft boat at least and there's very small children asleep on deck, it's not that bad at all. he proceeds to lie face down in his own vom for the next hour while his mates produce hard boiled eggs and sandwiches. after a while the lad carries his bag of sick to the back of the boat but makes ney effort to get anything cleaned up and just leaves it there. Genuine question - what's so unique about it? There is no comparable end to this in the stadium, ie no stand at the other end of the stadium the equivalent of the North Upper. It's the same situation as the level 7 at your ground, when we were put in that corner section of level 7, we were charged more than Newcastle fans just a bit further along in the same stand because it is a unique part of the ground. MW
I very much doubt Northumbria police will just abandon our fans getting in by metro, will still be a full on escort, maybe even heavier given that it would be impossible? (never been to that side of the ground) to get us there without mixing with your lot. they escort you though our city centre to get to the away end, doubt this change will have any significance on that front. Tooj
Sunderland’s crowds have shocked Wes Brown and John O’Shea, Steve Bruce claims, as the two former Manchester United stars settle into life in the North East. O’Shea and Brown both signed for Sunderland in the summer transfer window, and have endured a mixed start to the season with the Black Cats producing some inconsistent form. And while they continue to gel with the fresh-faced squad, Bruce revealed that the town’s attitude to their football club and the frenzy surrounding games has come as a surprise, despite the pair playing for one of the biggest teams in the world before their moves. “The intensity even shocks them. They are saying ‘why, what is the problem, OK we have had a bad start but why is it like it is at the moment, the frenzy,’” Bruce said. “We had a bad run last year but we finished tenth, so we must have had some parts of the season OK. “We finished tenth, but there is this frenzy which engulfs the North East. “Even those players who have played in front of 70,000-plus crowds 400 times can see how difficult it can be. “There is the expectation here of a huge, huge, club. It resembles a club which has won the Champions League or the Premier League or the FA Cup, like an Arsenal, a Man United, a Chelsea, a Liverpool. We have a similar expectation here. “It comes from the area and the size of the crowds we get repeatedly. It is terrific for the North East.” Sunderland are currently sitting 16th in the Barclays Premier League table, and face Arsenal at the Emirates after the international break. The side will be relying heavily on their away crowd to provide the support needed to get their season back on track and establish a position in the top half of the table. Saying that though, big changes at SOS, so sacking Quinny was worthwhile, can't get anymore money out of their own fans they now have to exploit other sets of fans to pay for their shite. Reminds me of a couple of years ago lovely sunset over ullswater, nice warm evening just sitting having a drink by the lake, lots decent people milling about, a few nice boats tied to a jetty. Then a noise approches, half house bricks rocks and boulders are hurled at the boats in the jetty, hitting water , jetty boats the lot, turned round - the noise was wearing a Mackem top, and noises dad, on a hot evening had a 80s style black leather jacket, 80s gay tash, and old style bad fitting jeans, and slip on placky shoes totally out of place, pennywell visits the Lakes.
