Hatem Ben Arfa

HATEM BEN ARFA has admitted he can’t wait to get “back to work” in a Newcastle shirt tonight.

The Chronicle revealed on September 2 how the French international was making good progress in his comeback from the ankle injury he sustained in Kansas City during the Magpies’ US tour back in July.

The blow in Kansas came after just 35 minutes of his return in the friendly against the MLS outfit – and nine months after sustaining a double leg break at Manchester City following a sickening tackle by Nigel De Jong.

Ben Arfa’s return to the fray this evening is testament to the many hours of hard work put in by the United medical and backroom team, who sensibly did not hand the playmaker a comeback date.

There had been talk of an October 1 return at Wolverhampton Wanderers, however Ben Arfa is now looking forward to linking up with his fellow countrymen Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid at the City Ground tonight.

Ben Arfa told the Chronicle: “I’m excited – the idea of playing again makes me smile.

“I have not played as many games for Newcastle as I would like.

“Now I want to take my chance to get a game and help the team get through to the next round.

“It is great to be back. I can’t wait to play again.”

Ben Arfa has worked tirelessly since returning from his double leg break at Eastlands.

The player initially headed straight for Clairefontaine for rehab, but made regular visits to a top French specialist in Paris, while also making regular Eurostar journeys to London to team up with United club doctor Paul Catterson.

Reflecting on his return to fitness, Ben Arfa, who has not played a competitive match since the 2-1 defeat at Man City, said: “Since I have been back I have worked very hard to get fit.

“I was in France first and then working with the group.

“Everybody is looking forward to the game with Nottingham Forest tonight.”

Ben Arfa’s Cannes-based advisor Simon Stainrod paid tribute to the 24-year-old’s rapid progress.

The former Strasbourg star said: “He had the horrific experience of his broken leg last season, but he is made of sterner stuff.

“The aftercare he has received from the specialists in Paris and the Newcastle United medical team has been different class.”

Pardew being positive about Ben Arfa here: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11678_7190153,00.html

I'm sure he's going to fall out with me and my staff and my players and we will with him, but along that line we're hoping to get some great performances and a lot of goals from him.

Is Pardew fucking retarded or something?

These comments, along with the Santon comments just don't seem like they've come from the mouth of a sane man.

Only ever seen Ben Arfa play live against Darlo and cant recall a great deal about his appearances for us apart from that goal and also know nothing of him prior to us.

My worry (and its only a little one) is that him and cabaye will be competing over those edge of box screamers. He tried a couple at Darlo.

I would hate to see Cabaye slink back deep leaving it to Ben Arfa.

This is to HBA from me.

Very gay, but its okay.

Tonight's the night we're gonna make it happen

Tonight we'll put all other things aside

Get in this time and show me some affection

We're goin' for those pleasures in the night

I want to love you, feel you, wrap myself around you

I want to squeeze you, please you, I just can't get enough

And if you move real slow I let it go

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it

I'm about to lose control and I think I like it

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it

And I know I know I know I know I know I want you

We shouldn't even think about tomorrow

Sweet memories will last for long long time

We'll have a good time, Baby, don't do worry

Has he played in any reserve matches?

I thought it would have been better to have a couple under his belt before giving him a run out in the first team proper, after such a lengthy time out?

Exactly. That makes much too much sense though...

Leave him out of the match against Forest entirely. Give him 20/25 minutes against Blackburn.

I'd have him in the match squad for Wolves away (1 Oct), but given their reputation I wouldn't consider bringing him on.

With a few reserve matches (or friendlies) under his belt during International week he would ideally be able to start against Spurs on October 16.

Has he played any reserve games at all? he better be ready like, I personally would've had him playing a couple of reserve matches before putting him in this game but I have no idea what his fitness is.

Looking forward to seeing him back but I'm ignoring the hype for now.

edit: someone asked my exact same question above  oops

Good article on the Ben Arfa return here from Mr Bird.

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/simon-bird/Newcastle-United-column-by-Simon-Bird-Don-t-expect-miracles-yet-from-Hatem-Ben-Arfa-s-long-awaited-injury-comeback-article801841.html

I wasnt aware of this....

At the end of last season senior players were seriously worried about Ben Arfa's ability to get back to his best.

His fitness was low, he didn't look the same player in training and he was ultimately pulled from the first team squad, told he wouldn't play in the end of season games, and sent on another special training camp.

To be frank, he's the most gifted player we've had in about 20 years. He's the type of player that would star in a team like Chelsea's so we should be fucking excited that he's back. Technique-wise, he wouldn't look out place in a team like Barca's. Let's hope he's matured and thus is a more willing passer as well being calmer and thus able to produce consistently. I honestly don't have any doubt about his footballing ability. This guy is top, top quality. I remember when Spurs were linked with him for 15m+ a few years back and feeling jealous as fuck because his footballing ability is out of this world. Somehow we ended up with him for 6m and he loves it here, too :yao:

I know it's somewhat normal for players to feel honored playing for their clubs but there are certain exceptions where the fans feel lucky to get to watch some of these players feel. The obvious guys are Messi whose skill is so sublime that you're willing to spend 150 euros to watch him kick a ball around for an hour and a half. Ben Arfa is one of not many players who has the potential to be that ridiculously good.
