Interpolic
Oh aye, now he's leaving some of you suddenly like him. But a few months ago it was insane to suggest he was better than Colback and Anita-_- Mannnnnn, you're crap
Stottie
It's kind of ironic that we're selling him after he looked good against Arsenal, but they were off the pace and it was chucking it down. 8M is a lot for him. I hope it goes toward a striker.
Newcastle Fan
Good luck to him, he had a great spell at the start of his career and especially alongside Cabaye in that season we finished 5th, but last few year he was just disinterest and barley featured in the team. thomas
In some ways scoring in that 4-4 was the worst thing to ever happen to him. I can't back that up with anything, it just sounded somber and deep. Goodbye Cheick. I liked you sometimes.
toontownman
Good chunk of change considering his actual realistic value. Makes me feel better about over spending on shelvey and potentially townsend. Tiote 8m --> 4m Townsend 12m --> 6m Shelvey 12m--> 8m It's a mad mad world. I will miss the best of him and the beast he once was, but also remember how long ago and rare that consistent form was. At 29 we have done ok. He could have stayed and been possibly useful but life goes on.
Dokko
Could we not just swap Tiote for Ba?

duo
Cheick Tiote is on the brink of a £4million move to Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua. Unbelievable
At 8 mill I could just about understand we were willing to take he risk. For 4 million however it's just silly imo.
Guest
I thought it didn't matter if it was £4m or £14m these days? I'm not bothered if he stays or goes, he's been replaced.

I'm not bothered if he stays or goes, he's been replaced. ..by a player with zero experience of our league. Even for £8mil i thought it was daft selling him considering the position we're in. £4Mil is just plane crazy.

toontenacity
He's been awful for 2/3 years. 2 good performances and suddenly he's a big loss..?
mrmojorisin75
We're best shot of him and I'd imagine he probably wants out as well. Not concerned unless it cements Colbacks place.
triggs
If Saivet doesn't start well there's Colback's place secured for the rest of the season. Should keep him until near the end of the window anyway until we see a bit of Saivet
timeEd32
Probably 8m including wages then? I'm not bothered about him leaving. Any extended run and he'd get injured or banned. We just signed 2 CMs. If Saivet isn't better than 2016 Tiote we have problems.

merlin
Never realized his early promise - too many off-field issues and clearly disenchanted during the past 2 years although nobody could blame him for that after seeing Cabaye and Ba depart for more ambitious clubs. Not enough goals scored for a m/f player and some silly bookings. Nevertheless, a better player during his early days than Colback will ever be. Theregulars
The greatest thing about this sale is not having to hear a bunch of halfwits bleat "shoooooooot" whenever he's within 120 yards of goal.

He had made it on the gravy train for a long time, so no need to keep performances at this peak.

He had made it on the gravy train for a long time, so no need to keep performances at this peak. Another example where the club are always thinking about the balance sheet and potential profit rather than assessing players on an individual basis. If they end up not being good enough, you can't shift them because of the contract e.g. Gouffran and they end up scarcely playing and going on a free. If they are good enough, then it can be a case of a lack of incentive to improve. They should have shorter contracts but under constant review to encourage the players to improve. mattypnufc
Cost us a lot more points than he helped gain, especially in recent seasons. Injury record isn't great and his on pitch discipline is shocking at times. Can't pass and can't really shoot. Not sad to see him go but thanks for the occasional beastly performance and THAT goal.
