Steven Taylor (now retired)

Recommended Posts

I remember a friend coming back from watching his son play in a youth game years ago raving about this amazing defender that was playing.  Turns out it was Taylor and at the start of his career he really did have a lot of potential to become a good player.

I can remember when he was kid everyone was saying he's gonna be a top defender in a few years. But somehow he's no better now than he was at 18 years old. How is that possible? For most it isn't possible but stevie is thick as a whale omelette.

See Micah Richards, Phil Jones, possibly soon Stones? It's one of those positions that for all the physical attributes or technique on the ball in the world, it's what's between the ears which is most important.

I wonder if it isn't partially down to the oft-discussed problem that youth training has had for years - a kid who develops faster than his peers (taller, more developed muscles, etc.) with a reasonable bit of talent looks to be the next big thing simply because he's playing against kids 6 inches shorter or without the muscles to compete with them.  By the time they're in their early 20's though everyone else has caught up physically & the big lump has never developed talent beyond what they had aged 18.

That's Williamson, Obertan, Marveaux, and now Taylor shifted on in the past half season. Clearing out the deadwood.

Glad it's finally happened, although those should have been removed years ago.

Glad he is gone but wish him well as he always tries his best.

Hopefully gets a nice payday somewhere sunny

He's had 10 years of nice paydays for basically being shite. Maybe the nice paydays should be shared around a bit, preferably on footballers who are actually good.

Fucking hell, didn't see that coming.

Can't remember much about his last time in the Championship as he didn't play that much but pretty sure Coloccini carried him so his performances went unnoticed..

The club are doing interviews with him about him f***ing off.

Have we ever done that with players before? Usually we have one line saying they've left and their names are stricken from the record.

In fairness he has been there 13 year or something (admittedly a few years too long), though I'm not sure if they did similar for Shola and/or Harper when they left?

Anyway no tears being shed here for his departure.

I don't hate him but he's been a bit of a useless bellend for a while now, even disregarding the endless injuries. I can't remember his last spate of form.

Should've left years ago.
