Guest expat in the pool
is it not up to the player, the club say you can have this if you don't go but this if you do. greed is the main factor again
Decky
We don't owe Shola owt, man. He gets paid around £150,000 a month to be useful twice a year. aye mate, i'm sure if your employer treated you like shit you'd think "oh well, i guess thats okay, seeing as they pay me" dosn't matter what agenda you've got against Shola, hes still a human being and an employee of the club, no need for a manager to do that in any organisation, which i doubt Pardew did. Lets be serious, most people get treated worse and they only get Shola's weekly wage in a year.

LoveItIfWeBeatU
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20888335 Nations Cup 2013: Nigeria give up on Shola Ameobi By Oluwashina Okeleji BBC Sport, Lagos 2 January 2013 Last updated at 13:59 Nigeria have overlooked Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi for their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations squad after he failed to answer their telephone calls. Ameobi was named in the preliminary squad by coach Stephen Keshi. But it was later announced by Newcastle boss Alan Pardew that the 31-year-old would not travel to South Africa. "Shola's refusal to answer calls gave Keshi no other option than to allow him to concentrate on his club," said Nigeria's media officer Ben Alaiya. "The coach and team secretary made several attempts to reach Shola but there was no answer. The coach waited to hear back from him but a call never came. "A decision on the next move will be made at the appropriate time." Ameobi made his debut for Nigeria last November in the friendly against Venezuela and Keshi was hopeful the former England under-21 international would be part of his squad for the competition, which kicks off on 19 January. But he has now become the second England-based player after Danny Shittu to snub the Nations Cup in order to play for his club. Millwall defender Shittu wrote to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and asked to be left out of the tournament. The NFF rejected his letter and insisted he must make himself available but coach Keshi approved Shittu's request. Meanwhile, a blend of locally based and European-based players will play for Nigeria against Catalonia in Espanyol on Wednesday before another warm-up game against Cape Verde. The two-time champions have been drawn in Nations Cup Group C with Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and defending champions Zambia.

Smal
The rest of our team play worse when he's on the field. Should never be starting games, but we all know that.

Guest firetotheworks
His surprising and seldom class along with that he seems canny don't do it for me. Even in that wacky, ironic way. His presence insults me.

worthy
How this guy still plays football is a wonder. The few headers he won ended up in going to no one and continually gave away stupid fucking fouls for being slow and grabby. He offers nothing at all and I would actually want to see Xisco instead now. Notice his amazing range of passing and his first touch in the first half, it was like watching a pubteam. leffe186
Genuine question. Is there anyone else in the Premier League who has remained in his team's squad/team as long despite the general scorn of his own supporters? The best we can offer are probably Huddlestone (7 years) and Dawson (7.5 years) - yet our fans are split on their merits. Dawson has continued to do a decent job, frankly, and both may be on their way. I don't count Jenas, because we've been trying to offload him for ages, and he's been out on loan for years. I forget how long Hibbert has been at Everton...

I forget how long Hibbert has been at Everton... He is good at what he's good at though - Europe, slaughtering mackems and ten minute bursts when you need something different. He is a genuinely good option from the bench. If the manager is picking him to play for 90 minutes, that's his fault, not Shola's. I thought he did everything asked of him tonight tbh and don't see the point having a go at him really.
Shak
The funny thing is that we've stumbled upon a use for him this year. I'm actually relatively pleased with the idea of him being on the bench as an option to throw on for 15 or 20 minutes at the end of games. He seems to relish playing against tired defenders and he's actually very good in the air these days. As a starter though, fuck. Just a vacuous lump of shite that makes the whole team worse. Says a lot about Pardew that he's thick enough to start him. Could easily have moved Cisse into a central role and started Ferguson or Sammy out left, or pushed Marveaux wide and brought Bigi in. Not only does that make the team better but it gives us a decent option off the bench late in the game. He should never start a game for this club again, at any level. Neil
I genuinely thought he was alright tonight, he kept our defenders busy, winning plenty of headers or at least pressuring our defenders sufficiently to force a poor clearance.
