James Tavernier joins Rangers

Judging from those comments on that Wednesday forum, it sounds like Tavernier isn't much of a fullback (defensively anyway). Hmmm. Though guess he's still young enough to develop his game/defending!

Well at least we could have another option for the right wing....

James wings out of Hillsborough

GARY Megson has welcomed the signing of Miguel Llera - but the Owls boss is looking for another right winger because Newcastle have refused to renew James Tavernier’s loan.

Tavernier’s stay ended on Monday after he had been playing well on the right wing.

But Newcastle manager Alan Pardew would prefer Tavernier to improve his experience at right-back - the position for which he was initially signed by the Owls.

Megson said: “Newcastle won’t allow the loan to be extended. I spoke to Alan Pardew. We’ve been playing James at outside right but they don’t want him to play in the position.

“I can’t guarantee he’ll play at right-back, because we’ve got Jon Otsemobor back and Lewis Buxton getting closer to full fitness. We’re looking for someone who can play outside right; we’ve tried for another player on loan, but the club aren’t keen to let him out yet.”

Llera has left Blackpool on a free and signed a deal that runs to the summer of next year.

Megson said: “I’m really pleased, because Miguel has done well in the three games he’s played, and he’s got something maybe we don’t have a lot of: good delivery from the back. He’s got to try to get himself in the team. If we do have a problem with Rob Jones, which we’ve had before, we don’t have to shift Reda Johnson from left-back.”

Academy keeper Sean Cuff has joined Blue Square Premier club Cambridge on a month’s loan.

A pelvic problem for Arron Jameson has meant the shelving of a plan for him or Richard O’Donnell to go on loan.

Makes sense really.
