GeordieDazzler
Didn't Colback play the same game as Carroll's debut, although I could be confusing him with Henderson
WarrenBartonCentrePartin
It was Henderson. Had their first call ups as part of the same squad
Yorkie
Would anyone recommend a particular ground to visit (for a game obvs) in north France/Holland/Belgium?
54
When Final Score of Soccer Saturday show a round up of all the games at the end of the show, there is always a column titled "Pools" with a bunch of numbers. What's does that mean? Is it a betting thing?

Me grandad used to do it, don't know anyone who does these days. https://www.footballpools.com/home

Someone could correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it something like you pay £13 and you pick a certain number of games you think are going to be a draw. You get 2 points for a score draw and 1 point for a nils each? Smash the points and you win the jackpot. I'm in my mid 30s so never played it but it was big back in the 80s I think
Yassassin
Littlewoods pools were largely how Liverpool reached their position of preeminence from the 60s through till the end of the 80s, the Moores family using their wealth to support them and Everton
bigfella
And when there was bad weather and a lot of postponed games, the Pools Panel used to sit and judge what they thought would have been the outcomes of the games affected. This was made up of ex- pro's, a bit like the Soccer Saturday panel, only with brains.

And I'm sure I saw a comedy of the pools panel played out like Twelve Angry Men. Edit....I think the myth is that Willie McFaul got sacked after a pool's panel result. You could also do 4 aways, 6 homes etc for smaller winnings.
bigfella
Yes, the immortal words on Final Score of "telegram claims for 24 points" would bring a satisfied smile to Frank Bough's face. He could have been thinking of the coke and hookers, of course.

SEMTEX
Gentle(wo)men, I have had this signed NUFC shirt for over 20 years and only just mustered the effort to put it in a frame (albeit a cheapy Chinese Amazon affair). ($500+ quote to get a framing company to do it!!). Anyway, I figured I'd print something off that lists all the autographs / the year of the shirt, and stash it inside. Or maybe make it look fancy and slap it on the front/underneath. One minor caveat: I'm not sure I recognise anyone's autographs other than Shearer and "STEVE HOWEY"*, so here's where you come in... I rotated it on it's side to make it easier to reference. Hoping that someone / many folk can help. So far: Line 1: ?? Line 2: ?? Line 3: Shearer, ??, Ketsbaia? Line 4: ??, ??, Shay Given, Phillipe Albert? Line 5: STEVE HOWEY Line 6: Gary Speed, Rob Lee Many Thanks, SEMTEX *started googling some players and worked a few more out, then got very stuck. Not convinced they're all (or any of them ) are actual signatures Edited April 13, 2022 by SEMTEX
Thiago
Line 2 second from the left I think is Dabizas. Line 4 first one on the left I believe is David Batty. Line 3 is Ketsbaia.

MrRaspberryJam
Guaranteed some of those will be shite you'd never have imaged like Bjarni Gujonsson, Paul Dalglish or Brian Pinas.
MrRaspberryJam
Do you know which season it's from exactly? May help narrow it down somewhat given we signed a boatload of players under Gullit and Dalglish whilst we played in this top.
