Sylvain Marveaux - arrested

Recommended Posts

The French Colback. Available on a free, potential to "do a job" and if the worst comes to the worst they can move him on for a modest fee without losing too much in the process.

He's collateral damage in the club's grand scheme of things. It'll be "fuck him, move him on for whatever we can get" just as it was with M'Biwa and Santon.

He should've had more opportunities but he was no great shakes imo. I prefer his type of player to the graft first creativity second sort, but I don't think he ever looked anything special in the admittedly little time that he got.

That's obviously not to say he wasn't better than some of the players chosen ahead of him, and wouldn't have been better under a different manager in a different system, but I won't be gutted if he leaves.

His career has been a massive disappointment, the guy was never particularly good for NUFC. He has been missed, though. De Jong would have been a fantastic replacement, imo, but this has of course been a complete disaster. It woould have been prudent to keep him as cover, though, as the most creative player in the team was essentially exiled.

Was he the one who assisted Cisse's winner against Fulham? I remember him going ballistic after one of his assists and I think it was that one.

If it's the game we played at St James' in the season we finished 16th, then I think it might have been Hatem with that assist. Little dinked ball over the back 4, into the box, and Cisse volleys while slipping to smash home?

Edit: Actual I'm thinking of that last minute winner, where Pardew celebrated like he had won the PL. Cabaye got that assist I believe.

You're thinking of Stoke I think. Fulham was either a deflected Cabaye shot that fell to Cisse or a Ben Arfa cross and Cisse header, depending on which season you're thinking of.

He's a talented player, but his contribution when not in possession was downright offensive.

True, although we did usually play two defensive midfielders which should have allowed us to have a more creative player pushed forward. Then having proper defenders who could defend would also have helped in keeping clean sheets.

Sylvain Marveaux (Guingamp)

A calf strain saw the midfielder miss his side's season closing 1-2 defeat at St. Etienne on Saturday night.

Marveaux ends his year at Guingamp having made 33 appearances in all competitions and scored three times.

He scored no league goals. He scored 2 goals in a Europa League game against PAOK and 1 in the Trophée des Champions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troph%C3%A9e_des_Champions

He provided 4 assists in the league, 1 in the Europa League and 1 in the Coupe de France.

From this I would conclude that he isn't very good (that doesn't mean he isn't as good or better than some of our other midfielders).

According to transfermarkt, he's had 2050 minutes this season in all comps, for three goals and six assists. Not fantastic numbers, but not terrible depending on where he is on the pitch. He's been down as "CF" in some games (!) His team are tenth and sound like low scoring, high conceding overachievers, which shouldn't be new to him. Just on the numbers, that is.

fwiw, Cabaye has one goal and two assists in 1600 minutes, though it sounds like they play him as a holding midfielder.

4 more assists in the league wouldn't of helped us like. Ne way.

Ligue 1 isn't the Premier League. Most would consider the Premier League to be a step up in quality on Ligue 1. Just because someone can provide 4 assists in Ligue 1 doesn't mean they could in the Premiership. Emmanuel Riviere was Monaco's top goal scorer last season!

Wrong.

Correction. He has 1 league goal. Wikipedia is wrong.
