Sylvain Marveaux - arrested

Recommended Posts

Marveaux is one of the most intelligent footballers at the club right now. Great passer, excellent delivery and can go past players as well. The only issue is defensively he's non-existent. Seeing Gouffran's work rate has only highlighted this. Against certain teams where we won't be exposed he could still be a key player, especially coming off the bench. Whether he would be happy sitting on the bench is the issue.

He looks like he's more suited to a orthodox wing-role - as opposed to one of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 - because he can dink past players and has reasonable delivery. Seeing as we rarely play 4-4-2 these days, I think he's better placed in a central position.

Agree with TRon with regards to work-rate; Gouffran's excellent determination up and down the park has highlighted Marveaux's weaknesses in this area. It's a bit of a cliche but Marveaux looks like a bit of a luxury player to me at present. Certainly very talented but I think he's behind a few in the squad; purely down to functionality of the team as a whole. I might just be infected by Pardew's containment policies, but I would have the likes of Anita/Cabaye/Tiote ahead of him in the centre.

Doesn't seem much like a wide man to me.

In this league he 100% isn't. Out wide he'll be invisible far too long and cause problems for the full-back behind him. Through the middle it's a much better use of his strengths in addition to somewhat negating his weaknesses.

i'd rather he done both when he played, we know sissoko can be very fluid, as can ben arfa, to have gouffran or marveaux being third in similar vein would be very hard to mark out the game.

Thought Jonas was much better today, looked like the Jonas of old, going past defenders, just still hasn't nor has he ever had a good final ball, which will always let him down, still though gets us into advanced positions which is a positive, still think he offers more than Obertan does and Marveaux is over rated on here IMO, bottles 50/50 tussles when on a run and offers very little during most games with the odd flash of brilliance.

But more than likely I'll get slated for going against the majority.

Jonas played well, it seems some people must have a scapegoat and Simpson is no longer playing to Jonas will do.

He's slipped you a button as well.

In fairness he actually looked a bit quicker today and went past people with pace on a couple of occasions. Absolutely shit when it came to putting a cross in though, as per.

So an even shitter Obertan. Yey, lets celebrate.

Don't think Obertan was that bad today. Was causing them problems but as usual lacked that final ball. Won corners, played a clever ball into Sissoko and had a good run and shot.

I really don't see Marveaux as a wide player, all his best work comes centrally.

Jonas and Tiote.

I don't get this 'people need a scapegoat' thing. Of course people are going to pick out our worst performers. Jonás is by far the worst performer who gets in our first team consistently now, so he's inevitably going to come in for a lot of stick.

I thought that we played well as a team tonight, you don't always need to have a go at a player who you think is the worst.

You don't need to but it would be unjustified to call him a scapegoat when he is clearly not playing up to the necessary standard for this club.

I didn't think he was bad tonight and the overreaction he receives is crazy.
