Gabriel Obertan signs for Anzhi

Did alright, needs to just make decisions faster and he could be really effective with his pace. There was one point where Cisse knocked it out wide for him and it was crying out for him to really take the left back on or just whip a cross in. Think he'll play against Spurs though, his pace with the pace of the front two could be really effective at Spurs and we'll need his pace v Bale.

He seemed to be more willing to run at his man today than he has been in the past, however there were still a few moments where he made the wrong decision. For example there was a moment early in the second half where Cisse was bursting through the middle in acres of space, he was more or less one on one with Given, and Obertan just had to play a relatively simple pass to him. Instead he tried to go it alone.

Useful display. But I really don't think he looks like a winger at all, he just never seems to have the right body shape or intentions. Not sure what position or system fits him best- I think the left might even work better for him.

I thought that he started off well, I think it was him who lost it then he chased from just inside our half on the left to win it back on the right.  He boiled my piss a couple of times, once when he was running towards the Gallowgate and looked like he had the beating of his man only for him to start doing step overs and then he hit it against the Villa player.  Also, one time he was defending just outside the box, he went to clear it and the ball went backwards as he totally ballsed up his clearance.

I don't think he's got a football brain at all but at least he put in some effort for a change.

Contributed to the victory and did some decent stuff yesterday, but a lack of confidence seems to put him in two minds about what to do on occasions and he freezes. He will have to overcome that if he wants to succeed at this level although two decent contributions in two games can't have done him any harm.

I have very similar thoughts about him. There is a footballer in there somewhere but, like you, I am not sure he is a winger. He doesn't seem to have the instincts of a winger, perhaps he is waiting for Pardew to turn him him from a moderate winger into a striker - as in the conversion of Thierry Henry

At one point he was one on one against Dunne on the edge of their box. All he had to do was drop a shoulder and he's in on goal, he hasn't even got that in his locker. He was better yesterday than he usually is but he still slowed down attacks and let defenders get into position. We can't have two wide players who do this consistently and expect to do well.
