I just assume owning land and leasing it out near a popular and massive football stadium is a lot smarter then selling it off and losing all control of that site.

Blah.

Well you patently didn't read my original post either, I mentioned the "whole development" and the potential payback.

Another poor decision and example of someone who doesn't give a s*** about the future of the club.

So it'd cost £300 mill to add 10,000 seats (based on prices way back when FFS thought about it) onto the ground, that'd only take about 50-odd years to pay itself back from tickets(not counting interest). Even if a hotel and casino (not allowed) were possible you'd be doing well to half the investment repayment time. Crap article.

You could get a whole new stadium for that (Emirates was "only" £390 Mill)

Another asset going from the club.  It would be interesting to see whats actually owned by nufc these days.

The only big asset left is the fans and we are now turning away.  The identity of this club is being stripped back to an empty shell of a bloody franchise.

And people still try to spin things as good moves.  T

Remember the renaming, people saying " its tge future, we get money from it". Well we/the club/the fans seen fuck all from that and I bet it happens with this land. Fuckin wake up man.

What's the size of the land anyway? How are land values in Newcastle? Esp. near the Ground?

That land would be a dream for any other owner of this club, besides simple lease income, you could build or develop a multitude of shops, restaurants, parking, museum, offices, etc. and it all be another facet of the club or rental income to the club if you made it a mixed-use entertainment venue.  You could turn that into something with profits going to SBR Foundation or other local charities/children's football clubs etc. It's not like this decision NOT to do this, is shocking, its just one of many other decisions that point to a man who clearly doesn't care about anything then his own wallet.

(if he sells this land, his own asking price of the club should go down as well, right? by some few million?...how much is the land worth anyway?)

Who owns the land on which the SBR memorial sits? I notice the brochure for the land for sale makes no mention of it. Wouldn't surprise me if that goes.

I think the garden was created by the Council so I guess they own that land.

I knew it was outside the area for sale, just saying that I wouldn't be amazed if the council accept an offer for the land from anyone who wants to develop what the club is selling.

yeah looks like the memorial garden is outside the area owned by the club, which is, unfortunately, good news.

Even our pitch they're fucking selling.

I have been wary of Ashley's motives for buying NUFC ever since he did his best to alienate the fans during the KK disaster....he has done little since to allay any suspicions people may have about his real motives and the fact that he wants to asset-strip the club in this way indicates he is actively trying to put the club into a position where it will be almost impossible to expand the stadium or use the land for club development that would bring in income.

You can't avoid the feeling that he is going to bail out soon and is doing maximum damage to the club's future not only to salve his own ego re the fans, but to do favours for his mates in the game like those at Spurs, who would be one of the clubs most threatened by an NUFC with ambitious and wealthy owners.

The only alternative to expanding SJP in future would be a move away, probably from the city itself and he knows how upsetting that would be for many fans
