I just refuse to believe that holding someones arm like that is within the rules. If so, that could be abused like crazy by defenders. Everytime you try go past they can just grab your arm, and that would be an easy way to take them down without even trying to get the ball. It would be happening several times every game. It makes no sense.

I thought the Bruno one was a stonewall penalty. Gordon was never going to get a pen, he went over like he was getting chucked out the Royal Rumble

It's not even debatable outside of the box, penalties now have some weird caveat that it's fine to randomly just not give them if you can think of a reason not to, like "he's looking for it", as if that somehow changes the fact he roasted 2 defenders and was clearly dragged down.

In general, I thought he had a very decent game yesterday, however the one galling thing is the inconsistency in what’s deemed a foul and what isn’t between two teams. It’s like some kind of either subconscious or conscious bias towards players/teams/country of said team. The Benfica players hoying themselves all over the shop, winning free kicks. We do the same, nowt. That’s what grated.

Not giving their RB a yellow for pulling Gordon back in the 5th minute was the bigger gripe for me.

My biggest hate is when Premier League refs let everything go for 20 minutes and then stamp down when they feel like they’re losing control. Same for yellows - no yellows for half an hour then every foul after seems a yellow.

 

At least the ref last night seemed consistent throughout.

I'm still seething about the game against Chelsea back in 2011 where David Luiz committed a clear red card foul very early in the game but was saved by the referee who didn't want to ruin the spectacle with such an early sending off.

Totally agree. Grabbing the opposition is now the equivalent of an over the ball tackle. It's cheating, simple as that. We would never had seen George Best gliding past defenders. Defenders now just practically rugby tackle.

Was absolutely livid with this cunt all game, and there weren’t even any huge mistakes, just constantly shit the whole game. The constant wastelocks on woltemade were probably the worst, and it turned into some personal vendetta with the crowd.

There is no analogy to make in regards to how bad he is, so I’ll just say this.

 

Peter Banks wouldn’t know how to referee a game if he managed to spend his entire life in a country where football is the most dominant sport and he managed to climb to the top of the tree in the list of football officials in said country.

I think he might actually be the worst of the lot. Atrocious every time I've seen him ref, and this isn't based on big decisions he hasn't given our way, he's just generally awful
