toontownman Posted January 13, 2014 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Hatem wasn't good today at all, nor has he been few occasions we have seen him, but he is a confidence player. You just aren't going to see the best out of him from the bench, especially for the limited time we see him. He absolutely needs a run in the team and an arm round the shoulder from Pardew. Its absolutely showing in his appearances. Fact is, Flair and creativity is secondary to the safety first, defensive negativity Pardew refuses to relinquish from every game, regardless of opposition. Its a broken record but we have a squad capable of playing flowing, attacking and creative football just like the sides above us and Southampton and Swansea below us. Bloody hell even teams like Norwich look like Barcelona compared to us. Pardew takes away and restricts almost everything that is natural from a footballer and fan.. the very reason why we watch and love the game, the very reason every one of those players decided to become footballs was running with the ball, scoring goals playing and watching attractive football. This can hardly sit well with the players and surely gives them the impression Pardew sees them as second best to most other teams starting lines ups. Yes defensive responsibility and in games like today a more restricted tactic needs to be employed. However, we have players capable of being creative and flowing while still being defensively sound. Its a mentality that breeds negativity and a culture of it inherent throughout the club and all that love it. It baffles me daily how we have got so far in spite of this negativity.. think where we could be with a more positive and ambitious approach. What do you want him to do when has 10 minutes against the best side in the country. The first time he picked up the ball, he beat two men then got a shot away. He then beat another two men but then slipped and lost the ball which was unlucky. Then he picks up the ball goes past a couple and his pull back was a poor effort but very few could have even got to the position he put himself in. Can't understand how you could say he wasn't good at all when he was clearly showing signs of class and if he had more minutes on the pitch, he was going to create some damage. We need him on around 50min Mark yesterday when we were having a go... instead we bring him on with 10 mins to go again when it had settled down a bit. No way he'll sign a new deal. Exploded past a few defenders, and all of a sudden they looked more vulnerable. It is bloody outrageous this guy doesn't start games, and have far more time to make things happen. Fair enough, if he starts and he is having a mare, then take him off around the 70 min mark. This crap makes no sense whatsoever. One lad went nuts at him when he slipped over just past the half way line. That was at a point when he had already beaten about 3 men by the touchline. Someone next to him pointed out politely that Hatem had just lost his footing and that could of happened to anyone, but the lad wasn't having it. I am inclined to agree that often we look a better team without Ben Arfa, but as a football fan give me Hatem with the ball at his feet over Gouffran and Sissoko any day of the week. Unfair to demand consistency from someone who simply isn't getting the minutes He doesn't lose possession (whether it be by a dodgy pass, shot etc) any more than the guys he is competing with BUT because he has the ability to beat a couple of players with ease more is demanded from him than others who lose the ball in a "safe" way I know it's clichéd BUT give HBA to Keegan, SBR and watch him tear teams apart, instead we have a coward whose footballing philosophy is more concerned with what we do without the ball than with it Exactly.
