Our mismanagement of HBA this season is all clear to see. f***ing pathetic from the club.

This, though, doesn't excuse HBA putting on the fat.

just think pardew's been a bit soft on him letting him go back to clairefontaine for rehab

To be honest... the farther away from our training staff the better

I don't think it's a huge issue really. They know him there, there'll be doctors he's worked with since he was a kid, it's where he went after his leg break. If anything it makes more sense to send him there than keep him here.

But the temptation is just too great. Non?

Also probably helps keep him happy, which is a good thing. He might be one of those players, like Cantona, where you can't afford to follow all the normal rules.

Just really needs a proper pre-season to get fit and ready.

Where did this idea of letting highly paid professional footballers go to their home country to recover from injury come from? Ben Arfa and Coloccini allowed to piss off for extended holidays whilst still getting paid amazed me. If that's how we are keeping our players happy there's no hope.

Does this mean that whenever a member of our foreign legion fancy an extended holiday at home, they can just pick up an injury, or worse, feign one, and the club will let them swan off to "recuperate"? What other club allows its players to do that? Did Ferguson?

The video of Coloccini jumping up and down at a football match in Argentina with a supposed "broken back" made me laugh, only topped by Pardew's comments extolling Coloccini's "professionalism", and then trying to convince us that Ben Arfa works hard at Clairfontaine only for him to come back looking like a pudding.

Pardew's "man management" is just as dubious as his team selections and tactics, and, imo, doesn't foster a hard working, professional team ethos.

The Coloccini decision was clearly made to try and butter him up, but why the fuss over the HBA one? Why are we against sending our player to one of the foremost training academies in the world to recover from his injuries, a place where they've dealt with every bump, scrape and strain he's suffered from since he was a kid? Or would you rather he stayed on Tyneside with our fantastic physios?

I'm sure the club have the ability to check whether players are feigning injury. Coloccini was probably sent down to the Nuffield for an x-ray or two before deciding whether he was available for selection. We're not that much of a soft touch.

I'm also certain this is club policy and has nowt to do with Pardew.

The "Ben Arfa's fat" stuff is just getting fucking silly now. He came back looking bulkier, he's not fucking clinically obese.

Anyway, how active do people expect him to be when he's laid low with a serious hamstring injury? How can he do any cardio?

Quite easily actually, not that there's much credibility to this silly discussion.

Think it's a valid concern to be fair, although obviously we don't know all the facts. Football's a team game, and successful teams and squads are normally those who stick together and fight for each other, those that have a fantastic team and squad spirit, leadership and togetherness on and off the pitch.

I am sure Pardew and any other manager would do everything in their power to keep them at the club, on the training ground and among the squad. Either Pardew has let them recover elsewhere for medical reasons or personal ones, or a combination of the two. Given we are scrapping against relegation at the minute, it might be sensible to question the club's policies in retrospect.

It's fair to question the club's policy here, and I'm curious how it stacks up against other clubs' policies. I know in the past we and other clubs have sent players to specialists in America etc for serious injuries like broken legs and so on (e.g. Shearer). Whether Ben Arfa and Coloccini needed that I don't know, but I do wonder if we'd have been better off having the squad all together, and whether player power has played a part in those decisions. You only have to look at our away record, which is often a measure of a team's character, and it speaks for itself. There is no leadership on the pitch and the team has looked disjointed all season.

One thing is for sure though, the club needs to seriously look at its training and conditioning methods because injuries have ruined our season. Had we kept most of our better players fit, as most clubs manage to do, we would not even be talking about this, and nor would we be fighting for our lives at the bottom of the table.

I get what everyone is saying about letting players swan off etc, but managing a football team is also about making exceptions to the rule for the right player. And as Icke said, the facilities he goes to must be excellent.
