I just hope that Pardew, for just one game, doesn't prepare a specific game-plan (and with it compromising the formation) to nullafy Pulis' anti-football pattern of play. In attack Stoke play for stoppages in their attacking half, and batter teams in the box. They're much more structured & methodical than the Wimbledon Crazy Gang teams, hence they're tough to prepare against. You just have to be mentally ready for the physical challenge etc that Stoke offers.

Personally i think Pulis (at least on the field) is bringing the game into disrepute, and there are others too. I'm not Mancini's biggest fan, but fair play to him for recently refusing to to acknowledge him (shake his hand iirc) post game. The football Pulis coaches (or the dog's breakfast that it is) isn't in the spirit of the game,. It's impossible to dock them points but looking at the bigger picture the FA has to grow some balls and set a precedent, for the good of the game in this country - at least from a player development aspect, and we're far behind the Germans atm.

If clubs like Stoke willingly & continue to employ an anti-football philosophy, by employing specialist anti-football coaches as a means of ensuring they pick up their annual slice of the premiership moneytrain, then penalise them financially. The likes of Pulis & Allardyce (ie. survival specialists, who are the anti-thesis of actually developing players technically), with their ideas, will eventually be phased out of the game if clubs come to the realisation that they're poisoned chalices.

Most people hate the way they play, but f*** me man, this post.

They're not the only ones.  Bolton played this kind of football for years, Greece won Euro 2004 with similar tactics.  Before we switched to 4-3-3 the quality of our football was mainly crap, were we bringing the game into disrepute?

I hate them and would love to see them go down, but we went to their ground this season and bossed them winning comfortably and I'm sure we can do the same on Saturday.  There's no need to be so dramatic and OTT otherwise the deluded geordies s**** will start getting peddled again.

It's blushworthy to mention the Greek winning Euro effort in the same as breath as the  Stoke Way. Sure Greece won it with a hit & run effort, they parked the bus throughout the tourney, the difference being they were an efficient counterattacking unit (that was capable of linking together some incisive through balls, on the deck) that hit you with width, namely through their fullbacks ie. Seitaridis in particular.

In addition i didn't solely isolate Stoke into this anti-football bracket. I even went so far to mention that the likes of TP and Allardyce (at club level) have created a niche market for similar thinking managers, and a route for clubs that simply want to survive and pick up their annual TV rights paycheck.

With regards to Pardew, and the ugly football that was served up prior to the 433 switch, hereby utilizing the potential on offer from the current forward trio.  That was acknowledged & called-for adnauseum, in a few threads, by myself included. It seems that you have a short memory. Pardew's ideas have evolved, and more importantly when the stakes have been at a premium. And for that  he has received due credit.

Pulis has had four years to evolve, with the sort of money (courtesy of a  cup-run most recently) a club like Swansea would only dream about, and would put to good use. For instance Swansea are defensive leader and a killer-ball-playing creator (to convert their possession numbers & attractive build-up play into more straight-edge scoring opportunities) away from mustering up  a sustained shot (over a long campaign) for a Europa spot.

Also mate, the FA gave Stuart Pearce a job coaching the youngsters of the country.  A guy who is publicly proud to say he'd rather play direct, long ball football than a passing, possession game.

Until changes are made at all levels of international football for England, the way teams like Stoke play is irrelevant.

I genuinely couldn't give a fuck how they play in all honesty, they aren't breaking any rules and people only claim that they are when they fail to beat them with their superior football. I mean I'll watch another game when they're on if I can, but if I have to watch them it hardly ruins my week (other than when they raped us 4-0).

I just hope we can win as it'll Pulis into 4th. I'm pretty confident we can deal with their Huth ball like, in fact i'd be suprised if they manages a Shotton target.

We're far more of an attacking threat now compared to when we went down there with a perfectly executed game plan.

I hope we got back to 4-3-3 and player our natural game and let Stoke worry about us. Not the other way round.

Same here, 4-3-3 and the points should be ours.

Unless we're playing without a keeper, they might just get the points if we field 12 men.

Agreed, let's not confuse things. We played a bit like we did against Stoke when we played swansea but we should e looking at more possession against stoke and going at them, they will not be able to handle our front three if we set ourselves up right

Playing the bibs game from the earlier training pics - Colo, Santon, Tiote, Jonas, Cabaye, Ba, Ben Arfa and Cisse all with bibs on. Fingers crossed for a 4-3-3 and also that Santon plays, which I think he will after drawing praise from Pardew last week. We've got nothing to lose now, let's give 4th spot a really good go and be positive.
