Vurnon Anita (now playing for RKC Waalwijk)

Was in a team that went to Old Trafford and won last season (something NUFC haven't done in forty years) yet Pardew's daft fan club think he's not good enough under any manager.

Doesn't mean a lot. Plenty of average players have won at Old Trafford over the years. What are Anita's outstanding attributes?

i don't get your point,  Did he sit in the middle of the park and boss the game for 90 mins? i didn't see the Ajax Man U game he may have had a shocker and carried by his team mates for all i know.  Teams can win without every player playing well.

Can't say I was taking too much notice of Anita at the time but I know Ajax battered them. The difference was that they didn't go there to try and keep the score down.

FWIW Anita was outstanding there this season too.

I still think, or hope, he'll come good. At the minute, though, he's not looking like a player who can recycle the ball quickly and retain possession. He gets closed down and outmuscled far, far too easily. Tiote is ahead of him for his athleticism and presence alone.

He seems to work best playing short, quick football, something we've done probably 3 times at the most this season.

It's weird, because he looked exactly like that at the start of the season, then looked to be getting into the swing of things. Now he's seemingly back to square one.

He did, and again playing slightly further forward for a spell. Hopefully it's just been down to his stop start involvement this year. As well as not cementing a position.

Before anyone blames this on Pardew, consider how many of you wanted him played at fullback today in the pre match thread.

His confidence looks absolutely shot. I think he's a decent player but I don't think we're going to see it here.

His confidence is low but it can be easily fixed if he can get few successes. Confidence is a weird thing. I remember being very low on confidence, scoring the ugliest rebound goal in the history of sports and playing great again.

The problem is not Anita itself but the team. We heavily rely on individuals to play and hold on the ball, Anita might be suited to a more pass and move team which is more dominant in possession and progressive.

Anita is useless when it comes down to physical battling and individual skill, he is much more of a team player which in my opinion will ever do well under Pardew since we don't play as one.

Imo he is much suited to attacking teams and will bring much more to a team that plays attacking rather than containing/defending.

Think a run in the right back spot might be a better position for him, as long we play rubbish contain football you will only ever get to see his running around like a headless chicken. In a team like ours even gosling or Bibi will do a better job.

We are a traditional route 1 english team that is shit at set pieces, not a continental sexy carpet football team.

Garbage, too small

You lost all credit when it comes to judging players after the way you went on about Demba Ba.

Didn't he also think Stuart Downing was the kind of player we should be going in for?

Do you mean the Stuart Downing playing week in week out now for a Liverpool team challenging for the top 6?

He still is the sort of player we should be striving to sign.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hope he regained some confidence on what was no great performance or anything but no defensive howlers or anything and kept us ticking over alright. Noticed he was sticking to Ruiz pretty well, something Perch is terrible at, keeping track of no 10s.
