AmI allowed to pass judgement and conclude he was not what I think we needed based on the fact I've seen him play for Ajax for the last five or so seasons, or is that irrelevant?

Did you think Tiote would be the player he turned into? The Forest fans thought Perch would never step up, IIRC Coventry fans didn't care at all about Best leaving etc...

Okay Anita cost a fair bit more than those but it is far too early to be judging a player and with all those occasions where it has been thrown back in peoples faces I am surprised some still come out with the 'I know it's early..' stuff.

A central midfielder shouldn't have been our first and only major signing during the last transfer window when we were crying out for defenders and a forward.  Spending £8 million on midfield and nothing on defence and attack has already cost us and I bet we make the same mistake again because we'll be looking for what we think is value rather than what we actually need.

On that basis the signing of Anita was madness and should have been way down our list of priorities.  Having said that, he shouldn't be written off after so few games.

I think he'll be fine just needs to adapt to the league, and agree we should have signed several positions before this but I don't think we operate like that, think we keep tabs on several players and bid when we can for them. We didn't have enough defenders shortlisted evidently.

I'm not writing him off at all by the way. He's our player now, and for that reason I hope he proves to be a world beater. Fact remains I've seen more of him than most on here and whilst you're all hoping and perhaps expecting him to undergo the magic Graham Carr signing effect, I've not seen much to suggest he was particularly undervalued when we got him. My expectation for him is to become a fairly solid defensive midfield player (which is his best position), no more no less.

I've personally got no expectations of him as I have nothing to base any expectations on, at most I hope he comes good and just feel that he has time on his side to turn out to be a good signing.  I have no idea whether he's capable of pulling that off or not and can't judge him this early.

What's going on with this guy, why's he not getting a game?  Given his versatility and the fact that not many of our lot are setting the world alight you'd think he'd play.  Amazed that Simpson has just strolled back into the team like he's one of our most important players.

Seems to me that he's not playing ball with the versatility thing. Perch is better than him at CM, and he doesn't want to play RB, so he's on the bench. That's how i'm seeing it, anyway.

I'd have him at RB every week tbh.

I find that very strange then, Pardew will/should have known that this would be an issue if that's the case.  Quite often there are only 2 central midfield spots to be had and you've got Cabaye, Tiote, Perch and even Bigi and Jonas ahead of him in the pecking order.  Surely he'd rather play than not play.

We've been a bit spoilt lately TBH.  Tiote, HBA, Cabaye, Cisse and even Santon to a point have all came from abroad and slotted straight in.  It's almost as if we now expect every Carr signing to be top class and hit the ground running.  How many minutes has Anita even played for us any way?  I remember him looking good in Europe a couple of times, a good cameo against Spurs and then he struggled in the 2-3 other games I've seen him in.

There's been negatives don't get me wrong.  But plenty to like about him as well.

I didn't mention the likes of Marveaux, Abeid and Amalfitano, as they just seem like opportunist signings and they were free.  The last two weren't even signed as first teamers either.

Kristan Heneage ‏@KHeneage

I also asked Pardew about Anita, he said he's more suited to games when they dominate possession. Which as the stats bear out was not today.

But in order to dominate possession, surely we should be playing people like Anita?

Yep.  When do we ever dominate possession as well?  We rarely have over 55% at the end of games.

We should go out with the mentality against teams like Sunderland and WBA that we can dominate. We've shown we're better, we have the better players. Pardew just seem too worried of losing to really let the team play to it's strengths.

Seeing as the final bid for Debuchy was 6.3m euro apparently. Why find the other 2m for Anita and give up on Debuchy?? None of it makes sense. Anita is a good player from a club with a strong culture but might not be robust enough for the rough and tumble of the PL, especially in midfield. I hope he comes through this difficult period but it will take time for him to adjust as it does all imports.

What confuses me most of all is the complete contrast in style between EL games to PL games.

We keep it on the floor a lot more in Europe it's not perfect but it's not going to be with a lot of back up players i just don't understand why we can't do that in the league too.

Especially against the poorer teams.
