Alan Pardew

I should f***ing hope they're panicking, we're going down.

They'll not waste money on s**** though, they're tight as f***.  Doesn't sound like we've overpaid either.  Hopefully these signings are the boost we so desperately need.

WE need Graham Carr pikcing our managers tbf, he's got an eye for talent and with that an eye for how a side is set up.

You don't need Carr to see how poor Pardew's long-term record at other clubs has been - the 2 clowns appointed him because he knew them and they knew he could be manipulated.

They had to back him or sack him - looks like they've gone for the backing option, he has no more excuses now.

It's neither. They've clearly shat their pants after losing to Reading. We signed two players last year, now we are looking at buying five in a month. It's panic buying and we have to hope they've got it right.

This - on the button.

Any sort of result at Villa will probably keep Pardew in the job until the season's end unless they have actually been sorting out a replacement but looking at what's available it would be more likely that they will be arranging someone else for summer.

IF we are still in the PL.....

The buys are not panic in the sense that they are players who were scouted, but they undoubedly ARE panic in the timing....does anyone seriously believe they would have bought 5 players in Jan if we hadn't been heading for relegation ?

During the 2011-12 season Newcastle went on to surpass all expectations by finishing fifth in the league and securing a place in the following season's Europa League, Pardew being awarded the LMA Manager of the Year award.[10] Pardew also brought in striker Papiss Demba Cisse in January who scored 13 goals in 14 games.

At the beginning of the 2012-13 season, Newcastle struggled again and were battling relegation when they had been expected to push for Europe. Their European adventure was short lived as well, after fielding a weakened side for most of the competition. Pardew fought back by signing Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, and Yoan Gouffran; Moussa Sissoko was permanently transferred ahead of a long-speculated 'Bosman' deal in June; while losing top-scorer Demba Ba to European Champions Chelsea after his minimum-fee release clause was finally activated. They climbed from 16th place in late January to a secure 11th place finish at the end of the season.

Pardew continued to rebuild the squad at the start of the 2013-14 season, as club captain Fabricio Coloccini returned to his native Argentina and powerful midfielder Cheick Tiote joined champions Manchester United for £12million, a new centre-back, midfielder and striker were all brought in on relatively cheap deals. All of these players would prove to be successful signings, further enhancing Newcastle's reputation as shrewd buyers. Whilst Newcastle's league form flourished again, their record in the FA Cup under Pardew did not improve: in the third round they crashed out 4–1 to Blackburn Rovers. An improved league position of sixth was secured along with Europa League football for the next season.

History definitely does not repeat itself.

At the end of last season when things were looking good, I never had much faith in him. He's one of Ashley's casino mates. Having said that he's a big improvement on Kinnear and  I still wouldn't sack him given the uncertainty of looking for a replacement. This is fundamentally a good squad (compared to the relegation year) and instability is worse than a mediocre manager. Long term I think we need a French speaker that is a better fit. But wouldn't sack Pardew in January.

With the French lads he's bringing in it's stand and deliver time for Pardew. He's been backed despite a awful season, so he know must get us up the table to a comfortable mid-table finish.

I'd take fucking 17th.

Not sure how current/probable France internationals can be classed as panic buys like. The timing is obviously that of a team that desperately needs players, but we just don't waste money like that. For better or worse.

It's pretty obvious that these are players we've been following for quite some time. In no real of the imagination are these panic buys.

Love how he simply cannot be capable of anything remotely positive now. Last season is completely forgotten.

2 wins in 17 games.

After this window SLAMS SHUT, he'll have no more excuses. If we still go down then I'm gonna write a proper stern letter, I tell ya.

If we dont sack him, Hire him some help ffs. We just need a second that can make the team play better coordinated football. I don't mind Pardew being the Director of Football as he pretty good with that job, but in all honestly Pardew is a very bad coach.

Thought he would have been gone if we lost the Reading game, just wonder what will happen if we lost the Villa game. Those who side him clearly don't watch much football except for Newcastle games. No freaking clue how football is played.

Good PR skills , good man management skills , playing on the side of the board etc.

Just a bad tactician that cannot consistently deliver.

It's not that, but honestly I had concerns even then. I felt it was our players carrying us a lot of the time. I respect what he did last season but in no way should that excuse the mess of this season. Would you stick by him and see us go down?

Some see this season as a continuation of a pattern that ran all the way through our performances last season (with the exception of the winning streak using the abandoned front 3). Some think it's just a manager down on his luck.

Then there are those who see it somewhere in between.
