alpal78
Ben Arfa and Ba produced the moments of class that won us the game. Otherwise we looked very disjointed, even in the second half, and we have to look to improve. It wasn't a great Spurs side, but they still looked far better on the ball. Got to disagree with Parky on the pen. Professional footballers shouldn't be arguing like a bunch of kids on who takes it. That has to be decided before the game. Agreed. Hatem can count himself extremely lucky he didn't miss it. FFS, it's not like HBA is a defender who has never taken any penalties before. Our best penalty taker is probably Shola and in his absence any of Ba, Cisse or HBA are competent enough to put away a penalty. As far as I'm concerned, HBA earned that penalty out of nothing and he had every right to take it. If he miss, then that's just unfortunate. You can't possibly conclude with any certainty that Ba would have scored, in fact if you remember, Ba missed the last penalty he took for us.
Zach
We were poor really for large parts of the game, a lot of players looked not quite ready and we probably got a little bit of luck in the first half. That said, it was a well committed performance and HBA and Ba's quality got us through it. Spurs can probably count themselvves not to get a point, but fuck them we won! Yorkie
Saw fuck all wrong with the penalty thing. Two players wanting to score. Only one of them can. Did. Happy days. Aye Ba's a stroppy get, but so fuck if he's burying chances like that.
alexf
was worried Ba seemed really down in the post match but then he brought out the smile at the end. Also Jonas loves an interview with his shirt off haha

Either way, these things shouldn't be decided on the pitch, but off it in match preparation, and it was clear from Ba's reaction that he was the designated penalty taker. Numbers
Was all sorted come the final whistle. Ba and HBA did the high fives to each other going off pitch, heat of the moment stuff the penalty.
Segun Oluwaniyi
HBA took over when he needed to. That's what you want from a guy like that. He's our point guard. The point guard is definitely Cabaye or Tiote, but the point is still somewhat valid. Ben Arfa is the one player in our team who is different from the rest. He regularly does things none of the other ten would think of trying. We need to give him space to operate and lead the team forward. He won't ask for the ball the majority of the time, but when he does, it should be given to him. Something is coming. Average performance, but a great result against a side that will be a direct rival if things go to plan. Two moments of brilliance from two people that will need to carry us on at least three fronts this season.

Jonas is more of a Rondo type, not looking to score, but working hard to maintain possession and distribute. HBA is like CP3. Keeping us in the game, absolutely looking to score but more than capable of finding the right option. Tiote is Ron Artest.

Either way, these things shouldn't be decided on the pitch, but off it in match preparation, and it was clear from Ba's reaction that he was the designated penalty taker. Don't think it's common practice as such, some teams do that when the player fouled was taken down badly and might be affected psychologically. This was the complete opposite, when HBA got the ball from the corner, he went straight for the box, he was looking to get the winner even if it was through a penalty. Far from being affected by the trip in the box, it made him even more confident because he got what he was looking for (a chance to score the winner). As for the designated penalty taker, you're right to the extent that Ba wanted the penalty but whose to say that he was the designated penalty taker? It could be a case of him just wanting to score the winner too. At the of the day, nothing wrong with players wanting to take responsibility to get the 3 points, as long as team spirit is not affected and in this case it wasn't. Guest Howaythetoon
Great win. Great start to the season. The good the bad and ugly of our play during the 90 but its the first game of the season so we cannot complain about anything really. HBA looks really up for it which is a good thing for us and a bad thing for the opposition. Jonas, the match winner, Taylor, Krul, and Perch all put in very good performances. Cisse was anonymous but worked hard. Ba scored a very good goal but was sloppy in the main. Tiote and Cabaye seemed unfit. Simpson was average and Santon showed promise. The new boy looks quick and competent on the ball and Obertan was well Obertan. A good all-round afternoon for me. We can take many many positives from this. 4-3-3 all the way Alan mind. TRon
A lot like last season in that I'm not convinced these are the players for 4-4-2, but the result is the important thing today. I suppose Pardew can always point to that and say having goalscorers on the pitch is what won the game.

Mike
fuck off with this point guard shit by the way. Just making a comparison. Next time, don't. Fuck that. HBA holding the ball and working until he could win the penalty was exactly like what Chris Paul did against Spain during the gold medal game. The 23.9999 play. Just one game to go by, but he's picking his shots better and becoming a leader.
