George Bailey
The lack of biggish clubs in the area gives Southampton (or gave them at least, not sure how it works these days) a massive catchment area. Ahem. That should be the case with us then? Yet we fail fucking miserably at it.
Wallace
The lack of biggish clubs in the area gives Southampton (or gave them at least, not sure how it works these days) a massive catchment area. Don't forget Pardew's opinion that it was down to class and education with them being middle class and us being a working class area. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/mar/28/alan-pardew-newcastle-education-southampton
toontenacity
The lack of biggish clubs in the area gives Southampton (or gave them at least, not sure how it works these days) a massive catchment area. Still very much the case these days, especially with Portsmouth in such a dire state. Bournemouth is now its only real rival across almost the entire South Coast, and Reading in parts of the Home Counties. School friends of mine were offered Southampton, Bournemouth and Reading trials - a real no brainer as Southampton has far better facilities, transport links etc. And they put academy players up in nice areas with agreements with good Sixth Form colleges. Well aye, quite goes without saying You could probably make a cracking XI out of players from the NE who we missed out on as kids...
SiLvOR
The only one I can think of who recently did anything from Chelsea academy is Jack Cork
Guest
One of the kids that won the Sky One show to get into the Chelsea Academy ended up at Hartlepool via Gateshead & Grimsby. Wonder where the winners of Soccastars are now? EDIT: Found one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadj_Sadok_Bouziane However, due to visa problems, he was unable to travel to England and did not join Newcastle United.[2] Prior to the competition, he worked as a shepherd and said that he had never played organized football. Guest
Did we not research this at all back then? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_El-Gabbas El-Gabbas unfortunately could not obtain a work permit and therefore was not able to sign a professional contract with Newcastle. As a result, El-Gabbas returned to his former Egyptian club Al-Masry.
sempuki
Prefer Remy over Berahino. We need to pay him as much as he wants (which would be a lot).
Guest chopey
Tbf I really no nothing about Berahino but I'm confident that Remy would score goals.
BONTEMPI
Best we could hope for is a loan deal, if Chelsea sign another striker.
TRon
Tbf I really no nothing about Berahino but I'm confident that Remy would score goals. I'm not after watching him today. Looks like he's spent the last six months on a Caribbean beach. Now I can understand why Chelsea might be willing to let him go out on loan.
toon25
Tbh, neither have played a great deal of regular football over the past year. If we signed either they'd need a couple of games or so to find their stride and bed in. We need someone to hit the ground running if we've any chance of stopping up. Wallsendmag
I think Remy's about the best we can hope for now. No £20m rated striker would touch us with a barge pole in our position and I suppose Remy would need to bang a few goals in to stand a chance of making Euro 2016 if nowt else. Slim
Why would he ever want to sign for us? Must have much better options and he has already witnessed are shambles of a club once.

None of these so called better options have come in for him as yet and scoring 9 or 10 goals for us would surely give him more chance of going to the Euros than sitting on Chelsea's bench would. Puts himself in the shop window for the summer as well.
Stuy_O
I never got the impression he disliked the club, quite the opposite, despite being a mercenary. He seemed to enjoy it here, knew the fans loved him. However we were a mess, then Liverpool were linked and that was that. Cant blame him for talking to them and then signing for Chelsea. If he wants to stay in London then Palace are his best bet, but they're still strongly linked with Adebayor. I don't think he'd be as unwilling as some think to come back here. St1pe
Tbf I really no nothing about Berahino but I'm confident that Remy would score goals. I'm the opposite really. I think Remy is spent now as someone else mentioned. I don't think we'll sign Berahino, I don't think he's as good as his fee suggests but I think he'd do enough to keep us up. Ankles Bennett
To stand any chance of staying up I reckon we need Remy, on loan, or bought, Berahino and Townsend.
