AyeDubbleYoo
Ironically if we'd nicked the away goal near the end it would be much easier to believe we have a big chance.
toontownman
Being at home for the second leg is a massive advantage for us as the losing side. If the crowd is up for it and we score early on they'll be nervous as f***. They looked like they were bricking themselves at home today. If we can come out all guns blazing and get an early goal they will definately be rattled.

If the crowd is up for it and we score early on they'll be nervous as fuck. Sounds simplistic but it's the old 'first goal's the winner'. We get it and I'd fancy us, they get it and we can forget it. TenkoDaLuz
God. I went thru the pages to see your reactions to our goals and I feel terrible now. You're such a good bunch of lads, I really enjoy you guys, even if you're telling me constantly to fuck off. If you make it through, I wish you win the EL

But an early goal at SJP and it really is anyone's game again. I wouldn't have 'taken' 1-3 before the game, but it's loads better than 2-0.

TRon
Hardly blame anything on individuals but, today, Taylor and Santon cost us the game. Also, Cisse should have got at least 2. We're still not out, though. Yes we are. Are the quarter-finals one-legged now? They can be got at defensively, no doubt. But we aren't a team that has been coached to go for the jugular, and when we do it always looks a bit clueless and desperate. Sorry but I can't see us winning 2-0. JB
As a Benfica fan I expected more from my team. Very bad start to be honest. Salvio, Perez, Maxi and Lima were out for us which affected our performance in the first half in my opinion. Newcastle had 2 great chances and we were lucky, but we also played some good football in certain periods of the match, your keeper was for me the best player of the match. Tremendous! The referee was terrible, I mean, I am not good on excuses but why nominating a French referee when Newcastle has so many french players? Does not make any sense at all. I expect a better match on the second leg from Benfica, I think we will go through, anyway, hope you guys enjoyed Lisbon. Don't know how yous can have a pop at the referee. Because they are used to getting away with their playacting?

Shays Given Tim Flowers
How good are Benfica at setting up behind the ball? Will they even look to do that in the 2nd leg? We're not dead and buried yet,2-0 home win is very possible in any game. Even if we get battered with possesion/time wasting all we need is a pen/Cabaye set piece/O.G and it's game on. Don´t expect that... Newcaslte will have to run after the score, you'll have to play more open. And Benfica usually scores every match. I don´t wanna sound arrogant... but my 1ºst impression of Newcastle is that if we speed up and press we score. This. We have really struggled with teams pressing us this season. Your lot were very good at this high up the pitch and it caused us a lot of problems.

Big part of the reason why this is the best forum around is that you can expect decent discussions even when things goes against us like it did tonight.
