Newcastle United vs. Benfica - 11/04/13 @ 8.05pm (ITV4)

Recommended Posts

2-0 up and then a last minute goal by Benfica to make up for all the last minute winners we've had recently at home

We lost 2-0 away at Anderlecht in the early 70s, got to 3-0 in the second leg at SJP only to concede a last minute goal and go out, iirc. Painful.

My dad always goes on about that game. Says one minute it was the best atmosphere ever and everyone singing the Blaydon Races, then deadly silence when their goal went in.

What are they normally like away from home? Them being an open, attacking side in the first leg certainly helped us.

Beaten Leverkusen (0-1) and Bordeaux (2-3) away in the last 2 rounds.

Got beat v Spartak and drew 0-0 with Celtic and Barca in the CL groups.

Away league form isn't much different to their home form.

Cabaye and Marveaux were both tired and knackered on Sunday against Fulham.

Now they have to play 2 important games against Benfica and Sunderland.

Cabaye hasn't been himself in recent weeks, I wouldn't risk him against Benfica but it's an important game.

I dunno.

It has a bit of a feel like that week we had the quartre final Vs Sporting and the Semi Final Vs Man Utd. What a awful week that was, two 4-1 defeats abruptly ending our season.

Time to lay those demons to rest.

I don't think Cabaye will play. I think Pardew will prioritise Sunday.
