Strange idea that players all need to be 'willing to hang around'. They contracted and we're under no obligation to sell anyone.

Very naive IMO.

As if there's no precedent in football for increased player power in these matters.

There's also a precedent for Mike Ashley not being messed around by anyone.

And there's also a precedent for Mike Ashley being extremely tight and prudent with money and I can't see him letting a player sit in the reserves as a matter of principle  when he could take a transfer fee.

Fair point I suppose, depends how vociferous the player is about moving. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Aye he'd probably deal with it on a 'case by case' basis I suppose but I'd be shocked if we don't learn the truth of the matter this summer at least once, regardless of what happens.

Next!  Think he'll get another prem job after Ashley's done with him?  Wait and see.

If he isn't sacked immediately the season finishes I can see us losing at a minimum Cabaye and Ben Arfa this summer. Maybe Cisse as well. Once the better players start leaving we could have an exodus on our hands. I don't think they have any intention of sacking him, though I think most of us hope that's not the way it works out.

I was worried about players going but then I realised it's a World Cup season. Ashley won't sell unless it's for very good money and if we refuse to sell, players like Cabaye and Ben Arfa will just get on with it. They're the only 2 I can see getting any attention from other teams.

I think they will point to the 8 year contract and saying surviving things like this was the whole point of it.

It's disastrous for the whole club. It's going to anger so many supporters and it's - again - an indication of the alarming lack of understanding from Ashley and Llambias.

I still hold a small hope that Ashley has the sense to intervene and do something here. The players must be fucking livid by now.

Although I don't think he will, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer if we stay up and Pardew stays. I don't think there'll be quite the clamour to leave as most seem to be expecting. We've supposedly scouted players specifically for professional attitudes, so I'd expect to see most accept their own part in this holocaust of a season.

I have been absolutely convinced that he's out as soon as the season ends, but now doubts are starting to creep in - only thing we know for sure about Ashley is that he's unpredictable so nothing should surprise us I guess.

Are you forgetting Ferguson's record before joining Man Utd ?

i know people are tired of other forum members (bimey etc.) having a go again and again....

But i have to say i feel the same way as bimey. Its a bit funny coz i do not hate everything about pardew - far from it actually. But still i feel very depressed...i do not feel there is anything worth discussing as long as pards is manager here.

There is no development or anything to be excited about. No development in our football, wasting good players in weird positions, same routine again and again (Shola on after 70 min even though we have other (inexperienced, i know) options in campbell. At least try something different when big shola keeps failing....starting to feel sorry for the bloke.

The best we can hope for is to stay up...and that will not be anything to credit pardew for. The only thing we can hope for is that pardew somehow keeps the squad happy. No matter what he will have a very very busy summer with a lot of issues work on.

27 years of Pardew

Wouldn't mind if it also included multiple trophies like.

If he won something he would probably get a 20 year contract TBF.

It would include multiple trophies because it did with Ferguson.

I know the majority (well everyone bar Ian W :p) wants the fraudster to be jettisoned even if we survive. But should we stay in the PL what are people's feelings on whether Ashley will actually sack him ?

I think there's only about 10% chance of that happening, just think they are too pally and he's managed to pull the wool over there eyes with the EL, lack of investment in the summer and injuries. Mightn't last a month or two into the new season though if we don't get off to a good start.
