I don't believe you're really optimistic about those things. What's even worse, I think you may be deploying some kind or sarcasm.

Some additional reasons for optimism:

1. There will be no "Ba Issue" next season - the "will he sign a contract or will he go" was undoubtedly a distraction for several months until he was sold. This wont be the case next season.

2. The Coloccini issue will be resolved - he'll either be gone (in which case we can move on) or he will have committed his future. Hopefully that will create a more settled back four.

3. Our French Players will be more settled - they'll have the benefit of a pre-season (something they didn't have in January), a better grip of the language and the demands of the Premiership.

4. We'll have less games to play not being in Europe - hopefully this will create fewer injuries and less fatigue. The squad will be rotated less meaning we should have a more consistent starting 11 who get to know each other. Plus, Pardew can't use it as an excuse.

5. Cisse will be better next season - he was played wide during the early parts of the season, scored less goals as a result and therefore suffered a dip in confidence.

All of these for me are a cause for optimism

Agree with that except for point 5. What we've seen of Cisse in the second half of the season is what we'll get.

I also think Ashley will be prepared to spend a fair bit more money than usual. Call it a hunchette.

Most of the players we signed in Jan were ear marked for this window.

Reason to be positive - they have Prem/NUFC experience, so will be stronger than if they joined in this window.

Ok, realise that this might be stretching optimism but:

If Cisse's form from January was over the whole course of a season, wouldn't he be on 15 goals or so? There are reasons as to why the first half of the campaign happened like it did for him. Strikers miss chances, I'm sure if you looked over Robin Van Persie's year he'll have missed at least 5 good opportunities. A big difference is that Cisse's misses are highlighted by the lack of good opportunities he has, there have been many games where he's had nothing to work with. With some better service, he'll relax a bit.

This season must have been a wake up call to a lot of people at the club.  Hopefully they've learned a lesson and next season we'll see the squad firing on all cylinders like we believe they can.

1. Pardew will be gone by Christmas

2. Krul, Debuchy, Santon, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko and Cisse are good enough...when playing to potential

3. We have no financial necessity to sell any of them.

4. With another bumper pay packet from the Premier league, we can afford 2 top centre backs and a striker.

5. We're guaranteed 18 points off the mackems, Hull and cardydd.

6. Parquet Courts just came on my ipod....."Forget about it!"  :snod:

I'll be shocked if all 8 of them play for us next season.
