xLiaaamx
I'd rather sign Targett and someone else than keep Dummett now. I'd rather have Lewis and still would rather have Lewis available now personally.
ponsaelius
We're probably going to struggle to shift some of our deadwood this summer who are still contracted - the likes of Dummett who are actually out of contract (while also not good enough and always injured) should surely be first out the door. He's never, ever been good enough. people argue he's a good defender, and does the fundamentals well, but he's shit scared of the ball, has zero technique and offers no attacking threat whatsoever. because he's so limited he gets held to the lowest possible standard, the opposite of someone like ASM, basically. not to mention he's a perma crock. thanks for everything Paul, but down to the Champo you go son. Bruce will probably sign him. which says everything you need to know. 100% this

Kanj
Would rather see him retire and be a coach in the lower setup. Rafa mentioned multiple times he seems Paul going into management because he's a really good footbal mind. Hating him @HUGZ is so harsh . You and @Optimistic Nut should be high fiving that post. midds
I would never have thought about extending his contract without a takeover. The thought of spending decent money to upgrade on him is automatic. It's little shit like this that just starts to gently stir a few doubts about Howe's judgement if he's even thinking about doing this.
Kid Icarus
As an aside from what you think of Dummett as a player, or how re-signing Paul Dummett flies in the face of aiming to win the PL in 5-10 years, his injury record alone is enough to say giving him another contract is insane. Mazzy
All 3 of those tipped to get new contracts won't he playing a huge amount of league football next season I don't think. Next season they will add depth and experience into a squad that will be made up of alot of players from abroad who have never played in the Premier League. They'll get alot of minutes in Cup competitions and if we are in dire need Die to injuries.
Theregulars
I’m not even convinced by the “need a squad” argument. One of the many players who have played for us during the Ashley years who you can’t conceivably see playing at another premier league side.
HawK
Ticks the homegrown-at-club box, not many of ours do, and is happy to be a squad player who Howe & co seemingly like. No argument from me.
Geordie Ahmed
Shelvey and Schar have shown to be more than useful under Howe so them getting a new contract makes sense Dummett if he wasn't always injured wouldn't be bad to have around but we know he's guaranteed an injury It could as someone suggested just be a tactic of Howe to ensure the squad is united until the end of the season I like Dummett but him getting a new contract isn't a sign of progression
HaydnNUFC
He should be moved on. He'd be okay as emergency cover but he's barely ever fit enough to be even that. Only logical reason I can think of for an extension is the homegrown at club squad registration rules, don't think we have many.

If he’s still performing ok next Christmas time then fair enough. He’s been here years and has been total shit for most of that time, so has to do a level performance over a much longer period to convince me. No chance in hell would I give Dummett a new contract, as not only is he an injury liability, he’s also a pretty average premier league player. As I mentioned in another thread, it’s an Edwards article, so take with a pinch of salt anyway.

I'm sure we have well over double figures in the current 25 man squad that counts as home grown so don't think we even need him for that And if we plan on moving a number of them on then may as well let Dummett go and then make sure to sign a homegrown player

I agree it's not a priority as it's hardly like loads of other clubs will be in for him, especially at his reported wage Giving him a contract could be with a view that in 12-18 months time we sell him and get something back for him

Conjo
Should be the first player out the door in the current squad. It's not even remotely a contest. Maybe he can join up with Mike Williamson to get some lessons in how he can improve his technique.
