Newcastle eye up Lyon star Clement Grenier

LYON’S Clement Grenier is the latest French target for Newcastle

The Toon, through chief scout Graham Carr’s contacts, have made a succession of signings from France.

And they are now eyeing attacking-midfielder Grenier, 23, who is valued at about £10million.

The France international, who can operate wide on the right or behind a main striker, has attracted plenty of interest from England’s top flight.

Arsenal and Liverpool in particular have been linked with a move for him.

Newcastle are also expected to sign Montpellier midfielder Remy Cabella, also 23, in the summer.

Papiss Cisse looks set to leave Newcastle this week

26 Jan 2014 09:20

Several clubs get ready to make one last bid for the striker

Papiss Cisse's time at Newcastle United could be brought to an end this week.

Reports in Turkey last night claimed Trabzonspor are ready to increase an original bid of £4million with Besitkas also interested in the striker.

And while Alan Pardew has always maintained the line that he doesn’t want to lose the Senegalese in this window, the club would be sorely tempted to off-load such an off-form player if an offer of over £6m was tabled.

It is believed that Cisse, 28, has rejected the chance to join Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach on loan until the end of the season.

Besiktas are also interested in a loan deal for a player who has scored only one Premier League goal this season, a penalty against Stoke on Boxing Day.

A proposed move to Qatari side Al Rayyan apparently collapsed earlier this month over Newcastle’s asking price.

The one-time talisman finds himself at best third-choice striker after a shocking loss of form and confidence.

But Pardew would want him replaced if he did go, despite his lack of goals. If Cisse does go that could mean, and Newcastle fans will certainly hope, Dutch striker Luuk De Jong signing before the transfer window closes.

The striker watched his side Borussia Mönchengladbach lose 2-0 to Bayern Munich from the bench. He has managed just 95 minutes in the Bundesliga this season and has yet to score. Newcastle’s interest in De Jong is well known, but last night the player admitted he still did not know what was going to happen.

He said: “I know there is interest from a number of clubs, but as far as I know there has been no offer.

”I still have a week. I just want to play football again. Preferably at Mönchengladbach. If not, then maybe somewhere else.”

I honestly have no idea what position Shola plays when he comes on. Would love to see a heat map of him for the past 6 games he has played.

I don't have one to hand but think it would look like the blue page of a dulux paint chart

"This paper can now reveal, representatives of the Magpies were following his performance from the stands at the Sanchez Pizjuan on matchday 16, for the match between Sevilla & Athletic Club. Interestingly, it was not his best day, being replaced in the 60th minute for Vicente Iborra, by Unai Emery...

.....In front of the eyes of the English scouts, Cala only managed to complete 41% of his passes (7 out of 17), with none of his long passes being successful.

Next.

 Needs more love

Agreed a deal to join Getafe in the summer.
