Zzzzzzzzzzzz

@milesstarforth: Understand there'll be a board meeting at Newcastle today to discuss the club's transfer options. #nufc

Good to see theres no hurry at all.

It's as if they are trying to piss us off. Kudos - it's working.

The options are a) sign people and b) don't sign anyone.

Incredibly those options are the same ones since the last two board meetings and no business has been done.

Every day i become more grateful the club have learnt from their mistakes and have changed

I feel this is big big news, possibly even worthy of a thread title change. It's the day pre season training begins, the transfer window is now officially open and we have less than 6 weeks to go until our first Premier League game, and we are having a fucking board meeting to discuss our transfer options :frantic:

Basically says to me all our top targets cost too much let's have a meeting to decide our next set of players to target

They'll be on to Plan Cs now after realising decent players cost money.

Will Mike let Penfold get the chocolate digestives out for this meeting or will they economise with rich tea? Probably the most important point on the agenda with the need to sign players under AOB.

Whether Bas Dost was a realistic target or not, the dithering on our part has probably cost us that one.  His club are now looking at what Liverpool paid for Firmino and think they should be able to get a lot more for their player.  If they had just gone straight in for him, then they would probably have stood a better chance of getting him that they do now.

Theres no reason to think they didnt want more money than we would offer well before it became public tbh. Was all guesswork that he could be available for £9m.

Today will be the day that McClaren will start to realise what he's let himself in for.

He'll know anyway. Pay > dole. Shambles NUFC > low profile Championship job.

After all the talk it's turning out to be the dullest summer recruitment drive since Lee Bowyer on a free. Not even a hopeful target to get excited about. Mid July would be a great time to sign players, most of our top targets will be gone and we can then concentrate on the players nobody else wants.

I'm sure we hear that they want "at least one in before the pre-season tour" every fucking summer.

It's the same "before the end of the week. Wait, early next week. Definitely before the end of the week this week. Actually might be next week. etc" bullshit they peddled when Ashley 'wanted' to sell the club.

He has a record of quitting if things aren't right. If promises are already being broken he could walk.

Let's face it - failure here could screw him, he'd come out looking good if he does a Keegan and declare the club hierarchy as liars and impossible to work with.

Would be very Newcastle for McClaren to walk before the season starts.

I'm hoping it does happen if we fail to invest. It could finally mean the fuse is lit for ridding Ashley, as the media he provokes through banning would have the perfect ammo to attack again.

On flip side, Ashley would see that as chance for Cathro to take over on the cheap and prove himself with limited squad with survival the target. Then blame lack of season ticket uptake for lack of investment.  :p
