One of the cliches that will no doubt be recycled for this is that form goes out of the window in a derby, which is a grave shame if true.

The in form team usually wins so for that reason we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

But Mick, form goes out of the window in a derby, so how can this be!?

A win for us and they're gone gone gone. It'd be very tough for people to argue against that. Fair enough their fixtures after Xmas should get much better but football is very much a mental game - if they're cut adrift by then, it doesnt matter how many home 'bankers' you have.

Not just that but losing a derby against your nearest and dearest when your cut adrift at the bottom would take some unbelievable mental strength to get over.

Doubt they have that in them.

They're going to be right up for it though, they can do nothing else at this point.

If they turn us over, it'll kick start their season good and proper (or so they'll see it)

Probably an ideal time to face us perversely.

Oh without a doubt, it won't be easy well in theory it should be but it never is

I still think we will win though and anything less will be a huge disappointment all things considered.

Plus it would be great to have some breathing space to those below us going into Chelsea and Spurs.

 absolutely, if we don't turn them over, we've only ourselves to blame.

Fingers and toes crossed

We can win and really we should win but I can never feel confident going into these games.  They were a total shambles last season and still humped us at our place.  Just hope Pardew has the players really pumped up for this one (except Tiote, I hope he has him drinking herbal tea, doing tai chi and meditating at the top of a mountain all week).

Head says a 1-2 win for us, heart says 1-1 draw or 1-0 loss.

Mackems are doing the same except only with one hand.

You can never predict the result of any game with certainty and these games are even worse to try to judge.

As has been said, the Mackems were poor when they came to SJP last season, but a new manager got them off to a good start and they won easily. The same situation is in place today and as this will be the first home game for them under Poyet they will be well up for it.

IF we get an early goal it will take the sting out of them and they will start getting desperate but if the same were to happen for them, we would be in for a tough afternoon and would have to display every bit of the resilience we showed against Liverpool with 10 men to get anything out of it.

Poyet also has form against Pardew - it will be interesting to see if he can transfer it to the PL...

They're only 6 or 7 points off safety and have just got a new manager in, their season starts now or even after our match.  If Poyet gets them a few wins before Christmas then they've a decent chance.  I do think they might well go down but it's not hopeless for them, regardless of their next result.

They've only won 2 of their last 23 league games in a run that stretches back to January. Their aggregate score in their last 4 games is 2-12.

We're in OK form and playing some decent football.

What could possibly go wrong?    :hmm:

Yeah you can never predict these really can you. It'll unforgivable if we were to have a man sent of given Tiote was sent off last season. They'll throw the kitchen sink at us but you'd like to think if we can weather the storm our class with Remy, Cabaye etc should see us through. Just hope Pardew has them right up for this.
