Didn;t watch it, just seen the goals, Pardews interview and Nevilles opinion on SSN.

 

I'm sick of hearing pundits (mainly Ando on TS, but also Neville just then) saying that our current position 9th/10th is about right, and had we been offered it at the start of the season, we'd have been happy with it.

 

Like that somehow justifies the run of results since boxing day, because it hasn't really hurt our 'expected' position, even though its been more down to teams below us not catching us till now.

 

Its so frustrating that the media can't/won't/don't see Pardews failings, even with hindsight of his previous jobs.

Neville is right the teams above us are all better, so we are where we should be... but the rest is bullshit. And theres no excuse for the last 6 games of just literally no effort and terrible play. Pardew is trash and needs to go, to much unrest.

 

But one of the reasons the teams above us are better is due to our manager!  Southampton arent great when you look at the sum of the parts, but Pochetino has them coached brilliantly.  Imagine what someone like him could bring out of players like Ben Arfa and even players like Anita, who are perfect for that kind of fast paced quick passing game.

 

I think if Pochettino had our both squads, he'd still play Shaw, Lovren, Lallana, Rodriguez & Lambert at least. I don't think there's much between us personnel wise. Pochettino here would have us where Southampton are now imo, a place or two better off but with better football. I'd take that.

 

They have some good players who would get in our side, and we have plenty who would get in theirs.  IMO he'd have us around that position minimum but he'd be going out their to win and giving us a chance of finishing much higher.  To say I'd take it would be understatement of the year, we can only dream of a manager like him to be honest.

I think you're overestimating the intelligence of PL chairmen there tbh. Pardew and his agent will point at that fifth place finish and manager of the year award and get another job soon enough.

I agree pochetino is way ahead of pardew as a manager, but southampton do have a better team than us imo anyway bar 1 or 2 players... although we wouldnt be much further with a different manager and this squad, but i can be sure we wouldnt be as effortless and gutless in our play like we are now and thats down to our useless manager.

No one's disputing that I don't think? Pochettino here night have us 7th-8th with this squad but at least we'd be entertained along the way. If top 10 is the height of Ashley's ambition, he can still do it being a tight arse but at least with a happier fanbase who'd enjoy going to watch the games again.

I generally like Nevilles punditry, but this is complete drivel coming out of his mouth.

Alan Pardew felt the wrath of Newcastle's fans on Monday night - but Gary Neville says few managers could have done a better job than him this season.

 

Members of the Toon Army held up banners calling for the manager to be sacked following a 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, the club's sixth successive defeat in the Premier League.

 

However, the club remain in ninth position, safe from relegation after a promising start to a season which has tailed off following the sale of influential midfielder Yohan Cabaye to PSG in January.

 

And Sky Sports pundit Neville says Pardew deserves credit for the work he's done since taking over in 2010.

 

He told Monday Night Football: "Alan Pardew is getting a lot of stick at the moment, but maybe when they look back in time - he's one of the longest-serving managers, second in the league - he hasn't done a bad job in what have been circumstances where not a lot of people would have done better.

 

"This year is probably about the maximum that anybody could have got from them. Selling Cabaye in January not only takes a lot of quality out of the team, but it deflates the rest of the group. A lot of them are French and know him very well and they think, all of a sudden, it's a selling club. It's that knock-on effect.

 

 

Pardew – Decisions went against us

"Generally this is where Newcastle are at this moment in time: mid-table, nothing to play for - but that's not a bad thing. It's where they should be.

 

"The eight teams above them are better than them. That's sad for Newcastle fans to hear, but it's where they're at, at this moment in time."

Neville believes it would have been an overachievement had Newcastle qualified for Europe this season because the teams above them have better players and bigger budgets.

 

But he says their miserable end-of-season form is tough for their supporters to stomach.

 

"I have to say it's a disappointing night for Newcastle," Neville added after the Arsenal defeat.

 

"Newcastle fans want excitement and fire in games - and they are getting nothing at the moment at the end of the season. It's just drifting through aimlessly and that is the worst thing, I think, for a Newcastle fan.

 

"They want things to happen. Most football fans do, don't get me wrong, but they are so passionate up there. They want goals, they want madness, they want excitement. They might even be happier losing 7-3 or 7-4 than drifting through games with nothing happening.

 

"It's a shame because generally, ninth in the league is about where they should be. When they look back upon the season, Alan Pardew will think 'if you said ninth position at the start...'

 

"All the teams in front of them are better teams. I think that's where they are. They have levelled out in terms of where they were at the start of the season to where they are now.

 

"Now is probably about right. I don't think it's a bad performance from them over the season, it's just disappointing the way it's ending for them."

 

Neville highlighted the poor performances of centre-backs Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson, suggesting they demonstrated a lack of communication against Arsenal.

And he says their defensive errors are reflecting badly on the club's coaching staff.

 

"It's repeated mistakes. We all make mistakes - I made plenty - but repeated mistakes are unforgivable," he added.

 

"You make one mistake and you have to work really hard not to make it again. Sometimes you make it again but this is repeated, week after week, the same mistake. It's not sinking in.

 

"I feel sorry for Alan Pardew in some ways and I feel sorry for the coaches because it reflects badly on them. There's no way they're coaching them to do these things on the pitch.

 

"They're experienced players and it's strange for Newcastle. They haven't done a lot going forward tonight, but conceding goals in the soft way they have has killed them."

Absolute joke these comments, sit at home and listen out for the chants. Why not spend your money and travel to London to voice concern and get the odd thousand to join in since it seems so simple to you? Instead you watch from TV then criticise how vocal our fans were, which in fact were perfectly reasonable given the scoreline and dire situation we are in, our fans did ourselves proud once again. Shambolic saying they didn't do enough or were 'muted'.
