huss9
Former Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles modestly insists a heart-warming act of kindness to a former Marine in Newcastle is “not a big deal”. The 24-year-old took help for heroes into his own hands as he came to the aid of a disabled ex-serviceman who had fallen out of his wheelchair while crossing a road. Newcastle United captain Lascelles, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, was going for dinner with his girlfriend when he saw the man in difficulty. And, in an interview with next week’s MOTD Magazine, he explained: “The other day me and my girlfriend, we just went to Hana for some food and as I was pulling up there was a guy kind of falling out of his wheelchair. Jamaal Lascelles “I was raining, it was freezing, it was about 8 o’clock at night. “I couldn’t fix it. I felt really bad because he was with his girlfriend or wife, I think she was pregnant too. I felt really bad for him so I thought ‘okay, I’ll try and get him in my car and I’ll give him a lift home’. “It was only in Gateshead where he lived. I lifted him up but I think he’d just had an operation – he didn’t have any legs. I tried to lift him but it was too painful for him. I got him a few drinks, I was chatting to him and I rang him a taxi that could take people with wheelchairs. “That came, I got him in there and said ‘I’ll get you a few tickets’. I gave him my gloves, gave him £20 for the taxi. I felt sorry for him. “When it comes to things like that I’ve got a proper soft spot. He’s battling on, he said he had to push himself 30 minutes back to his house! 0:00 CLICK TO PLAY REDS STRIKER TYLER WALKER ON HIS NEW DEAL AND FACING IPSWICH “It just makes you wake up and think we’re in a really fortunate position as footballers, we get things handed to us – obviously we’ve had to work hard to get ourselves to this situation, but he went to work one day and his legs were blown off. “It gets me annoyed about this ankle, I can’t train, but he’s wheeling himself around Newcastle with no legs. I added him on Facebook and we’ve exchanged a few messages. I’m going to give him a few tickets.” “I do have a soft spot for things like that and he was the nicest guy ever,” he added. I think he was out in Afghanistan, I think he stepped on a mine. He lost his legs, but his upper body is so strong because he’s always wheeling. It was only 10 to 15 minutes out of my time. “I was on the way into the restaurant, to me it’s not a big deal. To him it probably is.”

STM
He's a proper captain like. Plays a smart media game too (Not that I'm doubting his character).

Dave
Steady return to action. Need his influence on and off the pitch more than ever right now.
Alberto2005
Aside from his defending I like how he carries the ball forward.
Lush Vlad
Didn't look great from him or Yedlin for the goal and he lost it a couple of times in dodgy areas. But we look a slightly more competent team with him playing and he is arguably our most important player right now.
Jimburst
Thought he made our defence look a lot more steady, instantly. I know Everton are shite but still, we've been making shite teams look like Barcelona for weeks.

Dave
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jamaal-lascelles-wants-players-come-14036851 “It’s been frustrating for me when I’ve not been playing for six games or so. “But now that I am back, I’m definitely going to be on to people. “It’s not like the boys are not working hard - there’s none of that so that is a good thing.” Lascelles, though, is confident he can help turn things now he is back, giving his observations over the issues he feels have hampered United in the last few weeks. He said: “I thought our organisation wasn’t great. “For the last couple of weeks, it hasn’t been great, there was not much talking on the pitch. “It did not seem like there was much on the pitch in terms of talking and organising but we had that tonight, I feel. “We had chances but just lacked that bit of quality. “It’s just about finding the balance. We will do it, we will find it.”
Dave
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/dec/14/jamaal-lascelles-newcastle-given-home-truths-dressing-room-latest-loss Jamaal Lascelles has revealed that harsh words were exchanged in Newcastle United’s dressing room after Rafael Benítez’s side endured their seventh defeat in eight games when beaten by Everton at home on Wednesday night. “I wouldn’t say it was calm, no,” said Newcastle’s captain, who returned from injury for the 1-0 defeat. “There were a few home truths said but the reality is we’re not in a great position and sometimes things need to be said that players don’t want to hear. Hopefully, it’ll get a reaction. We don’t want to leave it too late.”
Jimburst
Some good words, I like this kid. Seems to be less forced than it was initially, I reckon he's slowly becoming a proper captain like.
AyeDubbleYoo
I hope it works, guess it's a fine line whether players will respond or just sack it off. Hopefully the former.
Klaus
The problem is, I can’t see a real lack of effort. Rather a lack of ability, which is a much bigger worry.
Rich
The problem is, I can’t see a real lack of effort. Rather a lack of ability, which is a much bigger worry. It's a lack of belief as much as anything, the lack of communication on the pitch is extremely frustrating to watch and it's very noticeable inside the ground. Nobody wants to know, so it's brilliant that he's back.
Gallowgate Toon
There's been some extremely lax tracking back over the last 6 games, like. It's not our biggest problem by any means but it's something we've slipped at, IMO.
Happinesstan
If he has chosen his words and gets a positive reaction then he will seal his reputation as captain material. This is a very different scenario to when he had a go last time, and he clearly recognises that fact.
Odear
Well this is his team for the last two years. This slip into absolute garbage has happened on his watch. Whether he was injured or not, he could have told his “home truths” weeks ago. I think this will define him as a captain. If he can get this group of players to colllect a few points before the cavalry gets here it will be some achievement. People talking about his ability are idiots. He’s a kid still pretty much with a heavy weight on those shoulders. He will become better with age so ease up on him.
