Our side: "The goalie is set to have a medical next week after agreeing a deal that could become permanent."

Preston: "Woodman is out of contract at St James' Park in 2023 and it's understood he will sign permanently, all being well."

So either Darlow stays or we sign a new keeper

Hopefully the latter. Darlow is nowhere good enough to be our No.2. Woodman would have been an acceptable No.2, but he (completely understandably) wants to leave to become 1st choice somewhere else. We either sign another youngster with potential and take a risk or we sign an solid older keeper who is happy to take a big payday.

The nuclear option is we sign a genuine top keeper and Dubs becomes No.2, but that seems very unlikely since our big outlays will probably be on a top striker and at least one decent winger.

I think most of us had high hopes for him but he looked rather suspect in the games he played at the start of last season. Good luck to him anyway.

No coincidence he was rooted to the bench at Bournemouth also. The few games he played for us he looked a total liability.

Goes to show just how huge the jump is from youth to PL.

Only the very, very best youth players become consistent 1st XI PL players. The vast majority end up sliding down the divisions.

I think something like 1 /100000 actually get to the PL

Still only 25, which means he probably won’t peak for another decade. More than capable keeper for the Champo and will probably end up with quite a few PL appearances by the time he hangs them up.
