Yeah, I feel sorry for him and it could make things tricky for us if we pick up any injuries but long-term (and by that, I mean from next season) I struggle to see him in this side

We need back up for Wilson and if we can get Maddison/ Paqueta in then that’s now more of a priority for me than a right winger. Willock has an injury in him and Longstaff isn’t good enough imo. Anderson; huge risk.

 

Gutted for Shelvey, seems he’s really bought into Howe and had worked hard even before pre-season.

Damn. Already a hit to what was looking like much improved depth under Howe. Sucks for him too as he really does seem to step it up when he's got the right manager motivating him.

It's a blow in terms of squad depth that's for sure. Just means more minutes for Anderson and Longstaff. That's not an issue I don't think. Problem will be if its ends up being longer than 12 weeks, but with a mid season World Cup it gives Shelvey a little longer to get back to fitness.

Horrible on a personal level for Jonjo.  He has clearly worked his arse off this preseason and really wanted to succeed this season.

 

Rubbish for the club as we have lost genuine quality from the squad.

It feels like that need for another signing just got a bit greater. Not really a big fan of his. But he has been loads better under Howe and has clearly been working hard to fit into the system.

Genuinely feel bad for him. Has got me thinking about our CM depth. I'm really concerned about Bruno and Big Jur - I'm not sure if anything happened to either of them we could justify having a squad player even close to them in quality..

 

Willock looked really good on Sat, so I think he's nailed the 3rd midfield slot, but with Shelvey man doon, we're a playmaker light. I also think we need another enforcer like Jur - I'm not sure Longstaff can do that role.

 

Our priorities were a CF then a winger. As many have said, a CM now joins that top list before the window shuts.

Agreed. On a side note, this is one reason why I'm a bit less concerned about a) doing deals in this transfer window and b) Callum Wilson's fitness. Circumstances are gonna make this a strange season with some unexpected upsides and downsides.
