Cool.

That's the one as I said only a matter of time before he goes as he's too big a name to be continuously undermined

He said that the other day and made it clear he had no intention of leaving and was going to continue and do his best. I'm sure I didn't imagine it.

So why is he keep expressing his annoyance and that's the first time I've heard him say that so clearly about it being made clear at the original meeting and than totally changed. You maybe right but I'll be amazed if he's here at the end of the season. It's another Keegan saga unfolding

Its not though. These players are his players. No one else is picking who comes in, which was the whole issue with Keegan.

The whole issue with Keegan  was being undermined as is Rafa - maybe different events but still ends up the same conclusion

I just hope that this is purely a lack of cash situation and that the objective is for mid table safety and then next summer to invest way more.

If Rafa can be patient enough can we be?

If Ashley does what happened to Keegan there would be a revolt. The loyalty is purely with the manager.. we would turn our back on the club (while Ashley remained) if he were to fuck Rafa over causing him to leave.

We've done the Pardews, Kinnears, McClarens etc... there's no going back to that.

"what happened after I was not expecting" i would be hoping that's the mad fee's players are going for

That's exactly what I was thinking.  Need to see or hear it tbh to make up your own mind but it doesnt seem like it's a "Ashley fucked me over" way from the text to me

We had a meeting

£xx million for these 5+ players

..in reality can only buy 2 of the players with that money

Fits with the quotes about "10m can get you a player who can kick the ball, 20m to score goals" or whatever it was. He's seemed shocked about prices in a few interviews I've read

I just want to enjoy it whilst he's here. Fretting about him leaving time after time gets really tedious more than worrying, analysing every intricate detail of his quotes in the press and doing detective work to try and link it to Ashley et al is just as soporific now. IMO.

I've seen this theory a few times but it hasn't sat well with me that someone who lives, breathes, eats sleeps football like Rafa would get caught unawares with regards to prices being affected by new TV Money. It's possible but I think he's just less happy with the board than the market.

I don't think anyone expected the levels of inflation we've seen.  6 months ago if you told someone you'd pay £45m for Sigurdsson they'd think you were mental.

Weren't there stories in January of us coming in for him this summer for £20m?

The idea that he's talking about the general prices in the market makes no sense whatsoever. Unless what he's said has been edited to shit stir, then saying 'what happened after I was not expecting' immediately after 'I had a meeting with the board and things were very clear' can only mean one thing.

There was a report that he'd have to pay the club a significant sum of money if he resigned.

He's tied in so he'll stay for this season then probably leave when his contract either ends or someone buys him out. He's not going to get the chance to build a team worth his name in the next couple of years I reckon, he's probably sussed Ashley by now. I expect he'll do as good a job he can while he's here though.

The longer he stays, the less likely he is to want to abandon the 'project' imo. I think he and Ashley could work together for a while with a back and forward relationship. The reasons he joined are still paramount, family, geography, premier league, etc. I'd be really surprised if he left before his contract ends.

my fear is he sticks the current situation out, limps through this season, with a promise of bigger spending from a second round of TV money. Only for Ashley to see survival as vindication for his spending limitations......and back around we go.

Its simple for me - if he/we can survive this season and he is given all the TV revenue he will stay.  Clearly that's all dependent on us getting through with the players we have got, which I think we can do.

Also gives us some time to try and get rid of the 6-8 players we all feel have no future here (which is not going to be easy).
