Newcastle United transfer rumours in the press

To be fair, how often would someone from our academy fetch a fee like that without even being near the first team squad?

If Rafa is happy to sell and gets to spend the money... then fine. He might even turn out to be shite, who knows

Brilliant fee that.

If he turns out to be a first-team player for Everton then how?

Then good on him and Everton. He'd never do that here.

I have some faith we'd be able to develop him. Based purely that I think Rafa will be making improvements there.

Why not? Carroll did, and we then got a crazy fee for him - which probably would have been even more in 2017 figures.

Exception rather than the rule, though. How many other academy 'graduates' have fetched a fee anything above a nominal one?

Well maybe because we've had fuck all decent come through? How many of our bairns even play for England youth set-ups? Not many.

If we've finally got one coming through who at 17 (happy birthday to him) is being targeting for £6 million bids from other PL clubs then we should not be selling him. Pure small-time mentality.

Clearly he wouldn't be leaving if he didn't want to. He is apparently one of our best prospects. He has had his head turned. 6m is a nice fee for that are a player annoying he doesn't have the trust in our system and the club to stick around.

Everton signed John Stones for £3 million as a 19 year old and 3 years later had sold him for £50 million.

Even ignoring the penny wise, pound foolish mentality of doing so - it's more than that. It sets an extremely negative image of the club and is pretty disgraceful IMO. The exact kind of thing that simply should not be happening with Rafa here.

Even with Rafa, it's clear we're lightyears behind the top 7 in terms of resources and pulling power. Extremely sad.

And more importantly, we're absolutely shite at developing players.

We're absolutely shite at developing players, which is amazing considering Mike Ashley's whole "vision" was about pumping money into the academy and nurturing players that was as opposed to spending money on the first team.

Agreed. 6million is pennies. We shouldn't sell our top prospects. It's small time and a disgrace frankly.
