Yeah, it's been a very good year for them and Ilarra has been their best player without discussion. It's just that I'm really doubtful he can replicate that level in a more taxing environment.

What's going on with Andre Gomes? Another player I'd dream of having play for us. Is he eventually going to take Iniesta's spot?

Hope not for Barca's sake. Obviously would be a good player for a team like us but he's been terrible for Barca so far

I've always been a believer in signing first teamers/key players and relegating current first teamers to squad players. Never see the point in signing squad players unless they are either to useful to turn down or have potential to improve.

A quality number 10 is what I'm most keen on. Sigurdsson would be belter.

:snod:

Agree 100%

Looking at the amount of investment/changes required I think loans are going to be crucial in the short term.

No way can we get the volume of replacements needed in one or two windows imo.

Make key, crucial big signings and use the loan system to the max effect.

A few players to look at from those teams who won't make it up (though competition for the likes of Cairney will be tough) and a few from those dropping down that would immediately improve our 1st 11.

Hoping Rafas standing will get a few players interested that would maybe not consider us otherwise.

Another massive summer for us in terms of what we our long term goals are. Let's hope they have learnt lessons.

Ignacio Camacho from Malaga would be ideal as the screening midfielder. Suprised he is still there. Marcos llorente from Real Madrid on loan (doubt they would sell) would be brilliant but probably too big a fish for us to catch.

On the contrary, they love to do sell-with-buyback transfers for this kind of prospects. It's true that they don't usually send the players abroad if they are really interested in them long term, though. They prefer that they get used to play in La Liga.

Benítez has a long track record of getting Spanish players to perform in England, so fishing in Spain seems a good choice.

Carvajal, Morata & Casemiro went abroad. Both European competition level teams, not newly promoted teams. But Benitez.....

Morata was always likely to come back but not the other 2. Perhaps Casemiro too - both featured in the first team a fair bit the season before the loan. Feel like Carvajal earned his.

He showed glimpses for Valencia. Remember him playing really well vs. Real last season. Offers next to nothing for Barca, though. I don't understand what his best position is meant to be. Doesn't seem to have any notable strengths.

I don't think Morata was expected to come back either. He kinda forced them to do it with his CL exploits. Even now he only gets a handful of starts despite his goal return and Benzema's unspectacular form.

But yeah, those examples show that they aren't loathe to sell good rated players abroad either.

Been a number of games since Benzema turned up. Without Bale the team lacks real pace. Get Morata in. Feels like Morata was only brought in to be sold for a profit.

Rate Benzema highly but he needs to be sold.
