STM
So,have we promised him and Chelsea that he will be our number one striker? Quite concerning if that's the case. Nowhere does it say that.
mrmojorisin75
I am not a fan of developing other clubs assets, Sunderland have tried that model for years and it's been a huge problem for them. Having said that with the market the way it is, no way even with 100 million we can plug every single hole we need to, so as long as he's the only one we are loaning then that's fine. Ideally we negotiate an option to buy, highly unlikely though that Chelsea will go for that. If they were prepared to sell him, I would pay money for him now, convinced the lad will be a big star. So,have we promised him and Chelsea that he will be our number one striker? Quite concerning if that's the case. I would hope not, unless Gayle is on the market. sunderland's 'model' was to have half a dozen loan players in their squad, most of them the best players in it very different from loaning 1-2 for key positions when you're trying to rebuild, as ronaldo has just said in the thread liverpool have done this themselves for example, juventus have loaned players from chelsea can't see an issue

Guest
Amazing how little jounalists know like. The other day the Northern Echo said around £80m, today The Times are saying 'limited funds at his disposal'.

This comes from Caulkin which gives it some credence.

Mole_Toonfan
80m is limited like. Was gonna say that, we don't really have the cash to be spending loads on a keeper.
geordie jamie
https://twitter.com/caulkinthetimes/status/870555480376135681 Yeah, maybe that wasn't the best word. Limited as in selling will be important, too. I think that sounds about right.
Chicane
Well of course we have limited funds, the important question is, what is that limit? Not many teams have a bottomless pit of oil money to tap in to
mrmojorisin75
caulkin just said something like "won't be £100m" on twitter, that's going to deflate a few balloons
STM
I don't think we will spend 100m but then again, I dont think Caulkin is the know-all God some seem to think he is. He undoubtedly has connections though, so I'd be surprised if Abraham wasn't done soon.
Mole_Toonfan
caulkin just said something like "won't be £100m" on twitter, that's going to deflate a few balloons We knew that anyway, initial reports were 70m on transfers and 30m on facilities etc etc.

John P
Reina, Abraham and possibly Semedo then? Caulkin mentioned Lejeune in his most recent article (Eibar defender / midfielder), so might be him instead of Reina?
